Re: Spring in full swing (birds/plants)

Thanks Magnus! Regarding the zoo or park question. It's neither actually :D All of these were done in the wild (forests, marshlands,...). Not too crazy about the zoo (birds in captivity and all that) and parks. All of these were shot with a Nikon D500. The lens used depends a bit on the situation, b...

Re: Remote control of solar imaging - from inside your house?

Hi Magnus I use that exact setup whenever temperatures aren't really suitable to be outside long (be it too hot or too cold). I use Teamviewer, works fine. The only thing to pay attention to is that you have decent network connectivity towards the imaging laptop sitting outside (laggy controls and i...

Re: Spring in full swing (birds/plants)

Thanks Alexandra :) The cuckoo was an incredibly lucky find indeed. While they're quite present here this time of year; they're extremely difficult to photograph (always hiding in the most impossible positions/locations). I've never gotten a shot even remotely close to this one (and probably won't a...

You can find an app in the Android/IOS app store called "SpaceWeatherLive" that gives you these alerts. It's completely free.

Spring in full swing (birds/plants)

While the weather hasn't been too kind to do any kind of solar astronomy lately; it has been downright great for my other passion (nature photography). Coming across new species almost every time I go out. Thanks for looking. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51131120173_7694c5093e_o.jpg Things ar...

Had a look at the data again and did see a clear uptick in activity during the night. I guess we're a bit slow over here ;)

Just had a quick look at my data; can't really see a noticable peak in activity as of yet. Will have another look tomorrow to see what the coming night brings.

Re: deep-sky imaging session | TEC140 F/7 Alta U8300 Paramount ME

Very nice setup (and images).

Building my own observatory was outside of the budget here (maybe some day :) ); so just renting space in a shared (roll-off) observatory which is hosting the equipment (Paramount ME, Tak180, QHY600).

Re: deep-sky imaging session | TEC140 F/7 Alta U8300 Paramount ME

Very nice set of images, Pedro. Beautiful detail in that M51 capture.

I do a lot of deepsky imaging myself. Be it from a remote setup I have (light pollution central here at home wouldn't work too well :D ).

Re: Bank Holiday Weekend Sunshine 2nd May

Nice set of images, Mark. And quite the place to set up as well. The eyes on you sounds very familiar. The place where I always set up here at home is close to (and visible from) a walkway running behind the property. I quite often get strange looks as if I'm from a different planet  . The occa...

Re: Radio meteor detection - Lyrids

Thanks Rainer/Stu. Hi Jochen, Great. Are you going to upload your data in rmob.org ? I've tested the upload function in Colorgramme a while back; but couldn't get it to work reliably (that entire piece of software is not exactly fantastic). Is there any other way to upload (be it through software or...

Re: Radio meteor detection - Lyrids

Thanks Alexandra/Mark. Excellent stuff Jochen! Post some more about the setup unless I missed it  I don't think I have :) Basically, the setup I have contains: - A yagi antenna set up in the attic. - RTL-SDR dongle (I have the Nooelec R820T2). - Old Windows 10 laptop. For starters, the transmit...

Lyrids results from my radio meteor detection station. Results largely align with what Rainer and Stu observed.

Scattered sunlight

As we move properly into spring over here, the sunrises/sunsets are becoming more and more colourful again. It never gets old! I don't photograph it all that often anymore; but just a few snippets of the times I did recently. http://astronomy.jochenmaes.com/sunrise_sunset/2021-04-01-Vennengebied_Sun...
