Solar Analemma. This outstanding image from Alexandra Hart taken over a period of 4 years charts the midday position of the sun in the sky throughout the year. The north–south component of the analemma results from the change in the Sun's declination due to the tilt of Earth's axis of rotation. The east–west component results from the nonuniform rate of change of the Sun's right ascension, governed by combined effects of Earth's axial tilt and orbital eccentricity.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and looking forward to a great solar cycle 25!

Re: Baader Triband SCT

And your C8 also :) I didn't notice that Baader ray tracing is very wrong. At the entry those are the chief and marginals rays, at the exit its a mixed of chiefs rays or standard rays. Actually we could even believe that the system use an afocal rather than a telecentric, and that the last lens that...

Re: Baader Triband SCT

Yes, pretty painful as you mentioned Rupert :) I did get exchange with Schott Yverdon factory at a time as I know people there. They would make the 200 or 235mm flat windows L/8 at a quite decent price (that is already 4 digits in €, and that was before the swiss Franc increase). But they won't do t...

High resolution animation

Hello all,

two HR animations that span over 2h in St Véran with the HaT11 and the Solar Spectrum .3A.
The surface is a bit washed out by Vimeo, but it preserve the resolution :)

Hello Laura, 714µS exposure, no gain, 15 images stacked.
HaT11 telecentric, no ND, just the continuum.

Re: Ha HiRes from St Véran

Thanks you guys ! @Valery : there is no calibration required in the SSM. Actually it's a pure transcription of Seykora and Beckers papers that was validated by the scientific community and the JPL has no issue with them, nor NASA that bought other units from one of my distributors. Nor the professio...

Re: Ha HiRes from St Véran

Most solar seeing monitor, beside limb analysis, use the scintillation work of Beckers and Seykora. And especially SHABARs. r0 are in line with expected results, and JPL guys are not shocked by those values. We speak of instant seeing, not long exposure seeing. By night time, planetary amateurs can ...

Re: Ha HiRes from St Véran

I just provided the JPL with several SSM, and we worked together on them for deliver the r0 as well, so I guess it's good enough for Caltech/NASA.

Ha HiRes from St Véran

Hello all, with Christian and some other, we are imaging from St Véran Observatory in the french Alps. I'm using a HaT8 and HaT11 with a SS .3A. The seeing is tremendous... I have animation, but the bandwidth is scarce here, I'll post them when I'll get back home. With the 8" : http://astrochonum.co...

Re: Request advice on double stacking a new Meade SM90 to Coronado SM90

Two ERF do eat some light. It is RG630 so the transmission is about 75% in Ha band. When I was using my DS SM60, removing one of the ERF was noticeable.

235mm ERF in stock at Airylab

Hello guys, I have produce 3 pieces of 235mm Dielectric ERF filter for C9.25 or large refractor. They are fully dielectric IBS hard coated. One is sold, so there are two units left. Those ERF are 100% made in Europe (France and Italy). They are better than L/8 PTV in transmission, and have a transmi...

Re: New hard-coated filters from Andover

Andover makes the BF for Daystar Quark (656FS02-12.5), it is 12.5mm diameter and cost $157 for one piece. I have replaced it with a 25mm diameter one (656FS02-25) and use it with TV 4xPowerMate to DS the LUNT50 etalon with Quark. The specification of the filter is 656.3nm Bandpass Filter, FWHM 1nm,...
