Flares and their timing can be so fickle sometimes! Lovely motion in the plasma around the spots. The seeing in that animation looks amazing.

Thanks Mark and James! I agree Mark, I should check into another camera, any recommendations?

James, the time stamp of 16:26 would place it at that first flare that spread out like a wave.

A Twofer with AR13443: Animation of M Class Flares 9/22/2023

Not as big a blast as the M8 two days ago but imaging for over 4 hours (I know, right?) I finally caught a flare, make that two flares, within 50 minutes of each other in the same area. The first peaked at 16:20 UTC at M1.4 and the second at 17:10 at M1.5. I started capturing this particular animati...

Re: September 22 2023. Slooh Ha

I almost feel guilty having been capturing animations since 12:46 UTC and still on it with an M Class flare at AR13443 at 16:45 UTC. I did say “almost” 😁. Hope you get some free time soon James, you deserve it!

Re: White Light or H Alpha for eclipse viewing?

For the total eclipse at totality you want something you can remove the filter from, which means a front mounted solar filter for WL is your best choice for ease so you can see the corona. For the annular eclipse you will leave the filter on the entire time so an Ha scope could add interest to the l...

That’s a great shot Stu! I know the feeling although I’ve never bumped my scope hard I have inadvertently spun the tilting wheel when putting the scope away and the next outing wondered if something had happened to the etalon.
