Re: something silly in cak

Oh wow that's really interesting. (And given how much NV tubes cost, well done for being that brave with this experiment!). So did you just put the NV tube on the end of the CaK filter (with no other energy rejection in front of it)? And was this prime focus or afocally?

The mosaics in particular are lush. And the dynamism captured in some of those closeups - it's a bit like seeing solar dust devils scuttling around.

That is a v interesting (illuminating?) comparison on the CaK - encouraging to see that less can indeed be more. And btw that last Ha closeup is real nice too!

Re: Weds 22 June - HA & WL

Thanks Mark, Franco & Brian - that's v kind. Yes I was quite happy with what popped out, although I can also see the ways they can be improved. Practice, practice, practice  Btw the Wegat visual back just transforms the ETX125 - it even allows for BV'ing natively w/o any barlows or GPCs. I ...

Weds 22 June - HA & WL

Finally got round to processing data gathered that morning. The HA is the usual kit (TV76, SF50, L3 filter, 178MMcool & 290MM+2.5x PM). The WL is still the ETX125 w Baader ND5 film, except this time I had received a Wegat back for the ETX125. What a wonderful modification that transforms the way...

My Solarscope DSF100 is back from his spa and relaxation week and with a little goodie bag too. It is in perfect working order and now has a shiny new screw. He came back with a T-shirt and some face cleaners :bow2 It is wonderful to have the customer care of Solarscope :hamster: :hamster: Alexandr...

That is cracking - the speed of with which that base is rotating vs the pace at which other structures are changing is quite something.

Re: SOLAR300 Continuum - AR3034 equatorial sunspot at opposition

That is gobsmackingly good. Just wow. PS - just love the way you can also see bits of features in the dark centre of the spot, as if you're looking deeper into a cave and there's s/t there staring back at you  Laszlo I'm guessing that's a homemade solar newtonian - if so, would you be willing t...

Re: June 20 - HA & WL

Thanks Maurits, that's v kind. Rod that's ingenious - the equivalent of dithering for DSOs! The scope is a little old TV76 (the single-speed focuser version so quite a few yrs old!), and yes you got it for those shots I had them mounted side by side on my DSO EQ mount (an old Avalon, the now discont...

Lovely as usual. I hadn't appreciated that the angle of orientation to gravity would mean re-clocking (had thought it was only needed wrt orientation of the etalon to the sun)!

Thanks Franco, that's v kind. I'm a bit perturbed by the grid pattern - I've heard about that with some 178MM chips so will have to research what the consequences of that are. Ah well.

June 20 - HA & WL

Seeing was better in the morning (luckily when I took these images) - visual still splendid but not as good as Fri 17 wrt seeing. The WL is w the ETX125 but w solar continuum filter instead of the long pass - the long pass is much better at freezing seeing.

Cheers

Re: Calcium Sun June 15, 2022

Lovely. CaK images always make me think of a Tarkovsky science fiction movie with a completely oceanic planet and just a few archipelagos of islands dotted in the vastness.
