Re: disassemble the quark.

Great post. So the etalon is only connected to the red housing at the top. Are there two sets of screws there? (One set of three to hold the etalon to the housing and one set of four to hold the etalon oven together?) It may be possible to devise a tilter for fine/rapid tuning of the etalon using th...

Sept 10th, 2022: 127mm Quark+Lunt double stack

Hi All, I was able to take a few nice images today and catch a bit of action in AR3100. These are taken with a Quark+Lunt 40mm double stack used in a 127mm/1200 doublet with a 2-inch 35nm H-alpha filter as ERF, ASI174MM camera. Best, Derek B&W: https://www.cloudynights.com/uploads/gallery/album_...

Re: Sept 8th, 2022

Excellent Derek, and very nicely processed ! Have you tried the "cropped" option in AS3 ? Thanks Christian. These are cropped because my polar alignment was not great. Not sure what is causing the horizontal line in the bottom left. I don't see it in the first image where I did not use gu...

Sept 8th, 2022

Hi All, Just wanted to share a few captures from today. This was my first attempt at imaging with the ASI174MM. I must say, it was very nice to have integration with the mount via firecapture and feature tracking. There are a few alignment artifacts though that may be related. These are taken with a...

Sept 1, 2022 AR3089

Hi All, I really struggled with seeing today but wanted to share an image of AR3089 anyway… This is taken with a Quark+Lunt 40mm double stack in a 127mm/1200 doublet, 2-inch 35nm H-alpha filter as ERF, 0.5x 2 inch focal reducer, and a camera with 4.8um pixels. Best, Derek B&W: https://www.cloudy...

Re: Lunt 40mm module help

You're welcome! Getting the etalon enclosure designed and machined and waiting to see if my measurements were correct was the most tenuous part.

Re: Lunt 40mm module help

Hi Magnus, Here are the components in the system. I also described the system in this post with a few more photos: https://solarchatforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=35857 Sol Telescope objective/tube/focuser (I have used an ST80, AT102ED, and Bresser AR127L all with success) 2-inch Baader H-Alpha 35nm filt...

Re: Lunt 40mm module help

*Of course there is also a custom enclosure for the Lunt etalon. The WHITE 50mm offered by Lunt does not require this but is considerably more expensive.

Re: Lunt 40mm module help

Hi Magnus, The etalon just unscrews from the front of the Lunt 40mm. I bought the 40mm scope with the intent of using it this way and still having a quick conversion back to a grab and go full disk setup. It takes less than a minute to switch the configurations once you have all the parts. I think t...

Thanks! Yep "inexpensive" achromat that has an easy dual speed focuser upgrade.

Re: Aug 14, 2022, Quark+Lunt 40mm double stack @ 127mm aperture

Hi All, I had first light on a new solar setup yesterday and wanted to share the first image. I was only able to get one 30-second capture before clouds rolled in – and this before I could really adjust the tilt adapter or capture settings as I would have liked. The result is better than I had hope...

Re: First images with our new Ha set up 29 July 2022

I agree the tuning looks good, and will defer to more experienced folks on that. I'm just curious really. I believe that the mica etalons will red-shift the central wavelength with increasing f ratio, but maybe that effect is small enough to be neglected in this setting. My quarks etalon is on-band ...

Very nice! Have you re-tuned that quark on the new setup? I would you would need to slightly lower the temperature.
