Re: Help! Lunt 80 arrived and I caught AP bug

2022-08-10-1246_1-U-G-Lunt_Exposure=.9ms_Gain=0_Gamma=70(off)_lapl4_ap7063.jpg I am glad you saw my criticism as constructive. The artefacts are an overall spottiness. Caused by over-sharpening the image in an attempt to bring out more detail. An unnatural, uniform texture applied to every part of ...

Camera for Lunt 80MT

I would very much appreciate advice on my first solar camera purchase. I played with friend's 120 but now it has to go back as it is his guiding camera. I would like to have a camera to pop it in occasionally when there is something interesting on the menu, and been looking at what is available. As ...

Re: Help! Lunt 80 arrived and I caught AP bug

Okay, tried what you have suggested, I think this is a bit better. Too bad I did not do the acquisition at the best settings and did not know that my FPS was capped at 30 for some reason.

Re: Help! Lunt 80 arrived and I caught AP bug

Your last image is pretty but very over-sharpened. Typical of Registax. Try using ImPPG instead. Aim for a far more natural appearance without all those uniform artefacts. This advice was given to me here and I value it as causing a major improvement in my own imaging. It hurts to be criticised whe...

My advice at this stage, ditch PiPP and Registax, stack in AS3 and sharpen in ImPPG.
Thank you, the one up there was touched upon by ImPPG. I already have AS3 if you mean Autostakkert, any particular reason why I should ditch PiPP?

Re: Help! Lunt 80 arrived and I caught AP bug

Okay, watched Marty's tutorial but basically aped most of it without understanding what is going on. The end result is OK despite having a different acquisition. Other questions remain, though.

Help! Lunt 80 arrived and I caught AP bug

OK, my Lunt 80 finally arrived, it was a bittersweet experience which I plan to explain in more detail in a CN thread, while I wait from Lunt and vendor to reply to a couple of problems that will need fixing (bad FTF, speck which seems to be inside of the doublet lens, missing caps, marred etalon an...

Nothing on the box except the TS note that it was checked by someone on a particular date. They do that, I understand, in order to ensure that it is not malfunctioning out of the box.

Re: Measurement of a Quark Ha filter with Sol'Ex spectrometer

OK, did a bit of reading and if I am not mistaken, FSR divided by FWHM gives finesse, so this one would have excellent finesse, right? Yes, this is true. But it would have been better to have the same finesse with a smaller FSR, giving a smaller FWHM as a result. I am going a test another Quark. Ju...

Re: Measurement of a Quark Ha filter with Sol'Ex spectrometer

Very interesting! Is the FSR of 40A in line with other mica filters you have tested? My quark is more like 30A. I was really surprised by the FSR value. Other mica-spaced etalons I measured have a FSR in the range of 18 to 26 A. So, rather close to your 30 A. I used two different approaches to meas...

Re: Lunt LS80 - Binoviewer Eyepiece Shootout TV Pan 19 vs TV Delite 15 vs Lunt 21-7.2 Zoom

Hello, UPDATE - I now have a pair of Pentax XF 8.5mm EPs I have bought a pair of Pentax XF 8.5mm EPs which give a mag of x115 using my 80mm Lunt with MkV Binos and GPC of x1.75. here is my review of the set up COMFORT - The Xfs are extremely comfortable to use. Re: Introduction with Lunt LS80MT and questions

Hi Axel. Salzburg is so cool and I am envious of your rooftop observation spot. :) I am waiting for my 80MT, while still using my Quark. Actually Quark was so good that I wanted to move to dedicated H-alpha with binos (Quark is not really compatible with binos), you are in for a treat. I have a numb...

The main feature of our binocular vision is stereopsis, which is totally cancelled in any binoviewer setup.
I will take your word on it, but I always perceive bino view as having more 'depth'.

Moving away from Quark - 60 and 80mm options?

I have been lurking unregistered on this forum ever since I have decided to scratch my H-alpha itch. Needless to say, read hundreds of posts before I decided to splash on a Quark. Made sense because I have a 100mm Tak and a 71mm Borg. Although there were some hiccups (fingerprint on etalon which I h...

Re: Baader 2 "BBHS-Sitall

Surprised to read some of the posts. I use my BBHS almost exclusively (not the full 2 inch version), both with and without frontal DERF in two telescopes with a Quark. Not sure what is the safety issue as there's still blocking filter and etalon after the diagonal... Thanks and welcome to the forum...
