the same position as in any coronagraph : where the refractor lens is imaged by the collimator lens.

the big prominence and eruptive emission within...(june 23rd)

hello, Here in Paris this morning there was a small clearing of the sky that allowed me to see this :) There was a Doppler shift at the base that annouced an eruption ; it was pretty small and faint but still I could see it in emission in front of the big prominence. Can you see that too when you us...

Hello, today there was a big eruption and I just saw the end if it with the spectro-coronagraph.. I could use different diffraction gratings... 600 mm littrow PHOTO 1.jpg 1200 tmm ++2 PHOTO 3.jpg 1800 tmm littrow_ PHOTO 5.jpg 1800 tmm Littrow éruption petites flammes 2 PHOTO++.jpg Chris

Re: some open slit photo - videos

This is much much better!!! well done!! but now what you need to get the best contrast is a Lyot diaphragm : if you look carefully you can see that your images are a bit "hazy" : the background isnt black and thats because of the diffracted light of the objective lens of the refractor. Whe...

awwwwwwwwww thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :)

the first image is the one produced with the 600 lines/mm grating .... there is less anamorphose (almost none) and less dispersion so its sharper.

Re: beautiffull prom this morning June 16th

Thanks p_zetner : It doesnt matter at all if i'm far away from the center of the h alpha line as the whole prominence is in fact the "H alpha line itself". Its not a SHG : there is no scanning of any sort ; nor image reconstruction.. Its just that the slit of the spectroscope is wide ; as ...

Re: Request for SHG owners

Here is proof that with the wide slit method the less dispersive grating gives the best image definition : 600 lines/mm gives that : 600 tmm classic stacked 2 ++++++++ PHOTO 2.jpg and the 1200 lines/mm 13_43_35_Soleil H alpha_16_06_22_F2213-2749 STACKED PHOTO 5 b.jpg . we can see the effect of anamo...

Re: proms of today June 16th 2022...evolution and comparison

With the 1200 lines/mm the image is "squashed" that its more blurry as each point of the image is more stretched due to higher dispersion.....

This works only if you use the "wide slit method.

Hello again.. I could again ckeck on the bog prominence that i started to observe this morning....but this time , as I had more time to image the sun I (again) tried both gratings in my spectro coronagraph..and guess who won the resolution contest..? I let you judge.... 600 tmm classic stacked 2 +++...

Re: beautiffull prom this morning June 16th

thank you very much :)

but look at this one taken with a 600 lines/mm grating : the definition is far better!!

Thats why i say that too much dispersion deteriorate the image quality in the wide slit spectroscopic method.

very nice :) What fo you think about the prominence image ? can you scan with the 2400lpmm in the same session to compare?

Hello ; at last a real sunny day :)

Re: Request for SHG owners

Hello, I dont know ; i've been using the wide slit method for 24 years so far and i'm still experimenting :) with my spectro and 2400tmm the H alpha line is 20 pixel wide but i'm not talking about spectral dispersion nor spectral resolution. I'm considering spatial resolution and so far my results a...
