Re: I keep trying

You guys and gals really made me feel like I'm getting there. Thanks for all your nice comments. I know I have a ways to go and my weakest area is post processing. Thankfully there is Autostakkert & RegiStax. BTW these images were captured from my live broadcasts this past weekend on NightSkiesNetwo...

Screw fastener size Quark

The upper body of the Quark has play in relation to the bottom half causing optical path to droop and thus image field is not uniform. I was wondering what size Tamper Proof wrench fits the screws.

Field Flatness for a Quark - DayStars Reply

In a recent post by Mike I commented that my Quark like his had an uneven field flatness. I had writen to DayStar about this and was waiting for a reply. I've included my reply in Mike's post and also I just received an email from DayStar on this subject matter and I've added it at the end of this p...

Re: The Quark has landed .... new toy, Yay!

Your images are wonderful. Like you my Quark doesn't not present a flat field. My Quark is brighter in one corner. I communicated this to DayStar and emailed them pictures. https://www.flickr.com/photos/23705399@N04/15004656595/in/set-72157645393470230 https://www.flickr.com/photos/23705399@N04/1500...

Re: Newton's rings (?) - Help please.................

Gordon, I use a QHY5L-IIm and experience Newton's Rings with my Quark. I tilt the camera in the diagonal and just about eliminate most of the rings. I just need to add a little more tilt to make them totally vanish. I was thinking that certain diagonals have internal adjustments to align the optical...

Great images. You must have been a busy beaver to have captured all these fabulous images. Really enjoyed the animation ones. By the way are those Newton rings in the western limb shots or are my eyes deceiving me?

Re: Hi-res continuum, 9 july

Very nice Dmitry,

I notice you are using a Point Grey camera that I have some interest in, E2V 1280x1024x60fps CMOS sensor. I was wondering if you have had any experience using this camera for Ha solar and if so have you had issues with Newton Rings while imaging Ha?

Re: Has anyone used this IDS camera?

Thanks for the report JP. Just browsing the Point Grey catalog and came across their BlackFly version of the 1280x960 e2v mono camera for $395 http://www.ptgreystore.com/blackfly-13-mp-mono-gige-poe-ev76c560 I wonder if the less expensive cameras have poorer coatings on the protective glass chip cov...

Re: Has anyone used this IDS camera?

Walter,

Point Grey has some similar cameras in the Flea 3 USB3.0 : FL3-U3-13E4M-C ($695) and FL3-U3-20E4M-C (not released)

Has anyone used this IDS camera?

I read that e2v CMOS cameras aren't plagued with Newton Rings for narrow band imaging. So I investigated and came up with IDS cameras and they have a model that looks interesting: UI-5240CP-NIR-GL. It is a NIR (near infra-red) 1/1.8", 1280x1040 at 50fps, GigE ,cmount equiped with a 70% QE in the 656...

Brian did you have any issues with Newton Rings and if so what did you do to eliminate them. I have a similar camera the QHY5L-IIm that I see lots of NR using the Quark.

Re: DayStar Quark - refractor

Renims, I just got the Quark (Chromosphere) and this is my first Ha solar viewing device. I just wanted to show what first light images would look like running with the recommended scope parameters. I was using a 80mm F7.5 at 600mm . The net figures are F32.25 at 2580mm. The pictures (single frame c...
