Re: 22.01.20202 Prom in very poor seeing.

Brilliant story thanks for posting. I am also a retired astro fiddling person with a shed and a concrete block pier and C6 Celestron PST mod, (but not nearly as creative as you, no home made scopes, mounts, observatories etc!). I sort of started out (second time round into astronomy) with solar and ...

2017 eclipse CATE project

I just got a notification about the white light citizen science project CATE that was setup for the 2017 total solar eclipse. I know that lots of forum members contributed to the initial design of the project. I had assumed it all came to nothing so I am very pleased to see what looks like an intere...

Re: Double Stack for Lunt 60

Very good for imaging as you can use a single exposure time for prominences and surface as well as much better contrast on filaments. I use DS60 for full disks always and after learning how to tune it really like the results, no composite images, and flat field if you are lucky. Definitely worth try...

Re: PST no visual change when focusing

Changing the exposure time alters the apparent colour and reveals the prominences. It would become more white with increasing exposure. Normally our eyes have such a wide dynamic range that we can see the prominences faintly. Cameras need help.

Re: Big prom animated. 20th September

Thanks for all the comments. DeepSolar64 The main thing that makes this sort of thing happen is ImPPG free software by GreatAttractor. It batch processes the files from Autostakkert (more free software) and then aligns them automatically. A simple planetary camera and more free software, Firecapture...
