Re: Help me choose new solar scope discussion, verified with a SSM!
If you decide for the 152mm f/8 and you need a 5x telecebtric, Oliver Smie from Beloptic seems to be back in business. After he moved from Germany to France his website was marked with "temporarily out of business" but this remark is gone for a few weeks now. Here are some more information...

Re: AR3712 G Band
Hi NIc! Incredible details for a 5" optics! Wonderfull image! Well done and congrats to the SPOD! As for the discussion about the gain value, I would like to highlight one important point: Read noise does not matter in solar imaging, since the images are limited by the shot noise instead, which...

What an amazing FD and the animation also shows a lot of dynamic! I am honestly impressed! Since I plan to make a FD timelapse of the TSE in April with a very similar setup, may you tell me how many images per video and how long each video for the FD and the animation was? Whould help me a lot for c...

Re: Impact of Ca K filter band pass on the visibility of filaments / comparison with SHG
Hey guys, I already read this thread a few weeks ago and was really surprised that it is possible to get a view of "only the chromosphere" as long as the bandwidth is small enough, like 0.12A in the paper. I always assumed the calcium concentration in the chromosphere would be too low, so ...

We did use the Baader Herschel Wedge (about 5% reflection = ND1.3) and a Baader ND1.8 grey filter to get in total a blocking of ND3.1. When combined with the solar continuum filter, we have a nice bright solar image that allows us to use short exposure times of only 1ms even at f/21.

Hi friends of the big spots, while I am still working on my own 100mm triband scope, I had the opportunity to pracise a litte with the really nice 203mm f/7 LZOS Apo from a friend in our local astronomy club. After we observed for quite a while, I only managed to make one video with good seeing befo...
