Re: Glare or Something Else?

Hi Shawn, Not sure if this helps. There's a curious "pinch" near it. You said the ASI174 was tilted which may explain the non-concentric rings going leftward. I'd just drape a towel over parts to conquer and divide where the issue may lie. glare_or_something_else.jpg The above is basic uns...

Re: Solar Eclipse Image Sequence Processing

I wrote some software back in 2006 to align around 30 total eclipse pics, because I couldn't find anything "off the shelf". That took about 6 months of inventing - centroids, edge detection, auto generating Photoshop javascripty stuff. 15 years of tweaks later and I'm ready to print. The c...

Re: CAK AR3477 & 3480 using a Celestron C6R from Singapore

Hi Alfred - I've taken my Skywatcher 150 f/8 lens out to "split the stack" and give them a good clean. The 3 spacers are between the 2 lenses. I needed to gently pry the lenses apart - at nearly 15 years old they didn't come apart easily. This post by Eddgie was very useful to me: https://...

Re: Astronomical Lunt observance, UK

Sorry for tardy reply! Had a "bit of a cold" and forgot I posted this. The UK Lunt BF prices are those quoted by UK by importers. eg https://www.bresseruk.com/Astronomy/Solar-Astronomy/Accessories/LUNT-B3400-Blocking-Filter-in-2-inch-extension-tube.html £3205 = $3953 In US $2160. Gone up $...

These photos of working equipment are invaluable. Thank you all! I wish more would show off their equipment. That sounds rude. Baader: "circular polarising filters only work in one direction". I didn't know that. I just bought a Baader Herschel and saw it in the online pdf manual. I just b...

I just bought a 2nd hand Vixen "Super Polaris 80M". fl 910, f/11 ish. No tripod so it's just an 80M :) It was £25 short of this new Bresser. Impulse purchase. Always wanted an old school Japanese Vixen. But for 25 notes more I could have got a new "up to date" slightly larger sco...

My new Altair 152mm D-ERF arrived yesterday too. Opted for the "comes with cell" version. 160mm filter, cell holds onto 8mm. I was concerned with Altairs "Delivery Weight" of 3kg, thinking there'd be about 2.5kg on the front of my already nose heavy Skywatcher 150 f8 frac. I weig...

Hi Jim, After stumbling across your Bubble thread in the Classification Project I now find these fascinating! ( here ) There's just too many fascinations on the Sun. Perhaps that look of "it's raining" is exactly that. Condensation. In my childish mind I see that prom as a long beast. Mout...

Very nice Mark. Old school manual focusing? I'll pretend I'm not envious.
Same hazy milky skies here in Kent for weeks now.
I tried imaging the same day ("easy" O3) but never seen the image jump around so much with hardly a butterflys waft at ground level.

I do like :-)

Alas Mark my gradations in fruit parlance are limited. I've only had bad apples to compare with. Would a lemon be an improvement? :D I spent time with my Lunt 40 today. My first ever Lunt / tilter. It's fairly on band without tilting. Proms & dark filaments with no tilt. Proms don't dissolve unt...

I couldn't say one cam is better than the other here. Both are wonderful. I've the M-Max, but bigger is better right? Surely the Grasshopper wins. Except the composition - seeing that expansive dark void of space around the first one, the loneliness of it, and yet the eyes of billions welcome it eve...

In UK there's no Solar Spectrum items on the shelves ready to go. I've been told not to expect a Sundancer before March 2024. I've a budget of £5k and can't spend it for love nor money. solarscope.co.uk is closer to home. But I'd need to buy a 3D printer to make a rear DS cell and that's more cost /...

This is troubling. PE 0.6 is $17990. Daystar have test equipment to separate the wheat from the chaff, then sell the chaff as $18,000 wheat. If not criminal then it's certainly morally repugnant. I've waited 3 months for my new Quark to be replaced. My seller had to wait for new stock. Even before r...

A very nice example of what the Altair G-band can do Christian. 0 gain 0.8ms? The question mark is not me questioning your numbers. It is me questioning how I can achieve those numbers. I had nothing close to this on my new GBand first light, last week. C9.25, Baader OD5 film, TV PowerMate 2x. 350 g...
