Firecapture crashing

I don't get much time to image and it rarely coincides with sunny skies. Rushed out the other day, fired everything up and Firecapture started to crash after a few seconds. I wonder if it is the heat on the camera, an update to windows or the camera software but had no time to look into it. Has anyo...

Re: Fraz - Quark Double-Stacked with a PST etalon

Could I ask how much tuning of the PST etalon was needed? Any idea if the effect due to narrowing the band or tightening transmission curvature slope? Best regards from Denmark Hi Gera, No more tuning than usual. You will get some polarising effect until you match the best quark to pst. Once setup,...

Re: Fraz - Quark Double-Stacked with a PST etalon

Another decent shot from this mod yesterday. The frame rate on capture is pretty low at 10-15 fps and increases only slightly with a reduction in size. This is with a gain in the region of 80 and exposure of 65 or so in firecapture. I found there to be a lot of banding and newton rings and the need ...

Re: Truss tube ideas

I was speaking to a workmate today who recommended that I make the rods out of single longer rod of thicker aluminium instead of trying to connect multiple rods to either side of the plate, instead use connectors that attach the plates to the rod. I can't see very well how Ale had his attached but I...

PST back box with bf5

I have one of these to someone who can demonstrate they know what it is and what they are going to do with it. I will pay UK postage or send at your expense. The item itself is free. I also have a gold tube and objective for a PST if anyone can use it as spares / parts. Please note that I have remov...

I don't know if you got this done or not but my first PST mod, I just cut the gold tube and used it as a nosepiece.

Re: Fraz - Quark Double-Stacked with a PST etalon

I didn't do anything special with the processing on these images and kept it pushed to the same degree on each to see if it could go further on one over the other. They both showed the same negative effects from seeing and pushing convolution. I held configuration for both on most aspects but had to...

Re: Truss tube ideas

I know I have called this thread Truss tube ideas (but) and I want to talk about lenses. It seems to me that after exhaustive research I came back only to Istar, the mod by Allesandro used the exact same objective I found! I am going to assume that there is not a glut of quality objective producers ...

I guess it is a combination of etalon size and 'research grade'
I wonder how much more it is for the double stack!!!

Got a couple more shots this morning and in particular a representative example of comparing the quark alone versus the quark and pst etalon. Re: Truss tube ideas

Lunt has one very nice truss design - I think you can get some ideas from it. There is very cool truss design from one of the forum's members - really good one IMHO. Thankyou very much. That first Lunt design, did you catch the price of that telescope! The second is absolutely where I was aiming fo...

You know when you look at something and think, that looks more difficult, I will go for the easier option. You just got me good and proper. I really just wanted to make this thing, if I could do it in stages and make improvements then I would feel so good about it. It seemed the logical way to go. H...

Re: Truss tube ideas

Hi, Interesting project. Maybe some sketches for a better idea what you are doing ? I have seen many Truss tube designs and most of them have varying sizes of intermediate plates in order to avoid paralellism among the tubes. Doing it like this perhaps saves you from using too many intermediate sup...

Re: Truss tube ideas

The objectives I had in mind are from Istar. When I go large I want to try and hit that 228mm. https://www.istar-optical.com/achromatic.html#ach220f15 The aluminium I have gone with is in sheets that I will cut out myself, that will be another piece of machinery I need to buy. I have gone for 6mm al...

Re: Truss tube ideas

I wondered at doing the Hexagonal build and may go there for the bigger build yet but my idea is to use the scope rings I have on my 10' reflector and turn that into a diy dob in the future. I'm going to have to do a weight assessment but I figure that the beefy truss is going to be lighter than the...

Truss tube ideas

Hi all, I am aware of a couple of people mentioning truss tube builds and have had the idea of doing my own build for some time now. I thought I'd start this thread so I can put down a couple of basics and see if anyone has any other ideas or pointers. There are going to be many outlets and ways of ...

Most of my other shots were drowned in clouds so had major banding and gradients even with a flat I just couldn't recover other than this one. I put it through Pixinsight DBE.

I would definitely go for the bf 15.

There are a ton of resources in the library and threads that you would benefit from reading. I found a couple on blocking filters. the longer your focal length the bigger you probably want the bf. The 15 will future proof you.

At the end of the day I would recommend it if you have the bits lying around and it will give you 20%. Don't go spending hundreds of pounds on this though, spend more time looking for good seeing and spending time with those you love. Buy quality, and in parts that are exchangeable or that are a the...
