Massive Prominence Sun, May 17th

Today there was a massive solar prominence hovering over a small magnetically active region on our nearest star. This was the largest feature us solar astronomers have seen in months. It was floating above the Sun's chromosphere aimed a little towards us. A magnificent taste of what's to come in our...

Re: Personal Solar Telescope Age

Welcome! Yes, everyone starts with the PST. It is a fantastic scope to get in to solar. What you saw were called "prominences". These are small clouds of plasma held loft by magnetic field lines. Solar flares are a different thing that you will also see with the PST, but not until activity increases...

Re: Hello Everybody

Welcome! We met at NEAF. I was demoing the Coronado Solarmax scopes on the field and run this forum. There is no better visual view of the Sun than through a Coronado 90mm single or doublestacked scope. Imaging is different but visually, that is the best scope out there for full disk. The LS80 would...

Re: PST no visual change when focusing

Tuning the etalon moves the filter centerline wavelength to compensate for the refractive index of the air in your locale at different air pressures. It will not change the color. It may change the brightness a bit. If you saw something on youtube that changed color, it was because they were trying ...

Re: Removal of lunt erf double stack possible?

Welcome to the group! Whenever you add a second etalon to a hydrogen alpha scope, you reduce the brightness by 40% as you narrow the passband of the scope.
While the ERf may be removed, it won’t make any noticeable difference.
