Re: Monday 29th July Sun

Alexandra,
Educate me please... I actually love your photos above but why are you unhappy with the ASI174? Is it because this is fast focal low res? My new ASI174 arrives tomorrow but I will be at F30 with my exchanged Quark.

Best,
Jack

Uneven Quark FOV Pics

So I received my Quark chromosphere and got to test for a few minutes. Here are single shots grabbed so seeing is poor (no mono camera just yet). The illumination does not seem even to me. True? One shot is with the knob to the left and one to the right. Ran out of time to snap the straight up posit...

Quark Combo at low focal lengths

With my f6.5 achromat and Aeties D-ERF Daystar recommends I use the quark classic with the 4.2x Barlow. But that much magnification scares me a bit. How about I get the quark combo and a 2.5x powermate and or also a 5x powermate for flexibility. Or I could use a focal reducer for the classic. Does t...

Re: I think I'm done modding..will I like the Quark?

I don't know officially what the seeing is. I could eat a quark combo and and a 2x powermate. 5he manager at Daystar suggested seeing would be fine at f32 but my experience leads me to think that the 4x built-in is a lit of power. I don't want to be pound wise and penny foolish and I wanted to save ...

Re: I think I'm done modding..will I like the Quark?

Perfect. I know it is completely subjective but I'm thinking a quark and a medium level monochrome camera I will be at peace. I'm sure you know the 'I can build this!' syndrome, but I I have gotten tired. As Soo as the check comes in ai will order. Cheers, Jack. BTW, Mark, whenever I see your name I...

I think I'm done modding..will I like the Quark?

After 30 years of home built telescopes and mods of a billion kinds, I think my wife and I want me to get somethingy working out of the box. My last attempt at the PST STAGE 2 Mod was simply a wreck as I have poked and prodded my poor unsuspecting equipment until nothing can possibly line up critica...

Re: Look where I've placed my PST Mod Focus

Mark,
That makes all the sense in the world and I don’t understand why I did not grasp that fact until now. I can’t wait to make the change soon. You may have opened up a new direction for me when this works.

Respectfully,
Jack

Look where I've placed my PST Mod Focus

With these images, where should I be placing my PST Mod? SCOPE: 152mm with PST Stage 2 with 5mm BF Stock eyepiece holder. 1:7 Glasspath right in front of the etalon. I have placed the ruler on a consistent spot on the mount. The Sun comes to focus at 210mm. When I place the PST Mod body into the foc...

Re: Camera recommendation < $500

Related question,
My wife is getting tired of me building things and my last PST mod is not behaving too well so that is why I thought I would try the quark route. I have not purchased it yet though. Would it make more sense to get a nicer camera and a BF 10 or BF 15 and finish the mod correctly??

Interestingly if I have that sensor and USB3 but it is color. I also have the basset silar film but have frankly forgotten how I used it successfully before but it is a great reminder for me!
