Re: 45min timelapse of retreating sunspot and partial disc
Thanks! However, after seeing your latest shot of the new sunspot moving around, I think I may have been confused on what I myself was imaging, as I think my animation is actually of that new sunspot and not the old sunspot, since I can see a defined sunspot in my still image from that same session...

Re: ANOTHER LARGE SUN-SPOT GROUP IN THE S.E.LIMB - Tuesday 3-11-2020
Thanks vm Rusted and certainly shows that hopefully a lot of action might follow - judging by your close-up capture. Cheers Terry I was seeing bright little spots [flares?] in the AR region just as I lost the sun to the trees. 15.15[CET] Hopefully we shall have something to follow judging by what i...

Re: ANOTHER LARGE SUN-SPOT GROUP IN THE S.E.LIMB - Tuesday 3-11-2020
I managed to capture the spot this morning. It showed the umbra and penumbra of the leading spot but little else. The seeing was coarse saw-tooth on the frantically boiling, solar limb, between almost continuous cloud. Worst seeing conditions ever! The sky cleared to blue as I crossed to the house a...

Superb animation and image.
The fleeting filaments give the animation an almost organic, "pond life" appearance.

Thanks. :bow The etalon is just a thick cylinder of glass in a solid sandwich. Access is not easy if you still have the etalon cell glued to the PST. Once the cell is free then access is straightforward. Mark has a well illustrated piece on the subject. Scroll down to near the bottom: https://brierl...

Re: 29.10.2020 The same spots but sharper.
Thank you all, yet again, for all your kind words. :bow The seeing was not great, due to thin cloud, but the lack of wind allowed better results today. I have fitted internal SSDs to my imaging laptop in the hope of shorter exposures. Presently somewhere around 2.5 seconds for 500 frames with ~5 ms ...

After struggling with uneven illumination for ages I wrapped my PST etalon element in Teflon plumber's tape. This was to achieve better collimation and was an obvious improvement in more even lighting across the image. Same image, different levels of processing: 29.10.20 14.17 b1200 1.6x GPC.jpg 29....

Re: 28.10.20 Amazingly complex AR!
Thank you for all the kind words. :bow I thought these images were awful but quite interesting as a record! ;) I may have inverted my PST etalon for these images after giving it a clean. Today [29th] I wrapped the etalon element in Teflon plumbing tape to improve collimation. This evened out the ill...

Despite the difficult conditions I managed to capture the multiple spot AR in the SW.
I've had to close up now in case the dome inflates and takes off across the fields.
It is very noisy and cold in the dome. Not a great image I'm afraid.

My wife wanted to know why I was laughing so much. There's no chance of my persuading "The Management" that solar imaging is a serious pastime. Not from now on. I just hope this doesn't seriously affect my equipment budget. :D We may just have allowed the mere hint of a desire for forest clear...

Thanks, Brian and Alexandra, but I shall definitely be practising "remote social distancing" for this round.
BTW: My research discovered that Stephen has a YouTube presence.
Perhaps the meeting will be televised after the event?

Can we be clear what to expect from just turning up on Charlie Bates Facebook page at the relevant time? Will it be sound only?
