Re: 19.10.20 Slightly better seeing:
Thank you all for your kind words. :bow Like all of us here I am constantly at the mercy of the seeing conditions. The practice I get as I struggle against the whiles of our own atmosphere must have benefits when it finally allows a closer peek. The standards set by those who post their images here ...

19.10.20 Slightly better seeing:
This is becoming a habit. :D I have all my captures and images on the observatory laptop. So I'm borrowing today's images from my blog to post from my PC indoors. I hate the small screen 15.6" and lack of a mouse on the laptop. Which I bring in overnight, but leave the monitor, keyboard and mouse be...

Re: 18.10.20 AR2776 in apalling seeing.
A 48 second video of three short videos merged to show the flare peak:
Though it was certainly visible in much earlier videos.
The dreadful seeing conditions are obvious from the first glance.
A smaller flare is visible on the edge of AR2776.

Re: 18.10.20 AR2776 in apalling seeing.
I have merged the three videos which captured the flare and uploaded them to YouTube as a single video. A glance at the video quality will confirm the dire seeing conditions on the 18th. The flare appears to be a "four headed dragon" at times. This was lost in the processing to single images. https:...

As I said in the SPOD thread I tried to blot out the flare because it spoilt the image!

Re: 18.10.20 AR2776 in apalling seeing.
Thank you all for your kind words. :bow I was in two minds over sharing these. The worse the seeing, the harder I have to work ImPPG for detail. It can produce a strangely artificial look to my daubs which I really dislike. While simultaneously I don't want to hide the detail. Fortunately I was able...

Thanks. Not sure whether I can obtain 100% ethanol legally. I may just hold the D-ERF under running water and finish off with a rinse with distilled water. :o The nearest we get to moonshine, in Denmark, is cross-border, cheap, German beer smuggling. I seriously doubt that a bath in Danish la...

Re: 16.10.20 AR2776 in dire seeing conditions.
Categorically leave the primary focuser at the -200mm position - do not alter it!!! Ever!!! The 2 images will likely be the blocking filter, rotating it should shift the ghost off the view. It could be the DERF, try rotating that, worth exploring if the blocking filter option doesn't shift it. Rota...

17.10.2020 AR2776 in soft seeing conditions.
A clear morning looked promising but the seeing was far too soft to show any detail. Best I can manage today. All were cropped. Too over-processed! Re: 16.10.20 AR2776 in dire seeing conditions.
Good capture Chris. Looks like something is tilted in your new configuration that is producing the offband in the opposite corners. With a 2.6x GP you should be right in the centre of the sweetspot with no offband in the fov. Have you tried rotating the whole module in the focuser to find the most ...
