Re: imaging camera

You should avoid rolling shutter sensor for solar imaging.

Re: Genika Astro 2.9.4 is available

Hello Valery !

There are two modes with PGR cameras : Mode 0 that gives the best speed, and mode 7 that gives the higher quality (and lower speed).
You have to deactivate the Mode7 in Genika options/acquisition/mode7.
The change is applied immediatly and you should see the speed increasing.

Re: Where to next?? Future direction of solar imaging

I don't agree, in 15 years it did change a lot : - more aperture ! Some years ago most people though that 100mm was the optimal aperture due to the turbulence invincible wall. Now we use 400/500mm in white light, and 280mm in HA :) Filigrees have been shot for the first time by Christian this year, ...

Re: Solar Scintillation Monitor and travelling kit

As Mike mentioned, the scintillation correlates to the ground and transition layers induced turbulence. That are roughtly the two first kilometers of the atmosphere. When looking at the Huffganel/Valley seeing model by day, there are two peaks of turbulence, one is the classical troposphere between ...

Re: Genika Astro 2.9.4 is available

At least Genika 2.10 is available ! It brings the GigE PGR camera (thanks a lot to Ruppert for lending me a camera ! If you need to buy a PGR camera with Genika, go see him, he is a great guy :)). And also ZWO ASI USB3 camera support with a special focus on color support. @Valery : now Genika should...

Thick parallel window in a converging beam brings spherical aberration indeed.

@Mark : the 12mm front filter in the Quark is the BF with the bandpass, not an ERF :)

Genika Astro 2.9.4 is available

Hello all, at last Genika Astro supports Pointgrey USB camera again. The support is for USB 2/3 monochrome camera starting on this release 2.9.4, GigE will hopefully follow soon. As a bonus, I also added a phase correlation autoguiding (in addition to the center of gravity) to autoguide on surface f...

Re: Grasshopper3 4.1 MP Mono USB3 Vision (CMOSIS CMV4000-3E5

Good sensor, but very difficult to use due to high PRNUs.
I switched to the Basler 1920-155 with the IMX174 and it is much easier to use for very good results.
IMX174 has a very good dynamic range in the Basler (over 12,1 bits measured), I'm surprised the ZWO doesn't show that dynamic ?

Re: My first SSM data

It's a funny little thing (that may show very disappointing readings also...). I did test several SSM in parallel with the same readings, readings can be directly compared between each others. I did the test mostly to see the cable length impact. Up to 2m using unshielded audio RCA is fine. I didn't...

Hello, I can't resist to share this amazing image from Thierry Legault shot with is 280mm HaT. Probably the most resolved image in Ha band I've seen from an amateur !

Re: The SSM is available

Genika is now working with USB PGR cameras in both 32 and 64 bits (Genika has the two versions). As for GigE I coded it, but I have nothing to test it and in the PGR SDK, GigE management is different from USB. And I think that doing that at a distance would require a lot of tests. Depends on the tim...

I don't use one at home, my velum is at the right place.
When I'm on the field, I use an iCap that is very well build. It's a bit expansive, but it is worth it.

Re: The SSM is available

I don't want to support FC. Genika PGR support is now coded and passing in beta test for USB. I did the GigE as well but I have no camera to test it.
And I can now confirm what my wife told me about PGR SDK : it is absolutly archaic :)

1) When capturing 16 Bit at 1920x1200 (2.3MP) the PC is dealing with a lot of data. If anyone has seen more than 40FPS @ 16 bit for Solar at 1920x1200, and been able to capture at more than 500 frames before the memory collapses please let us know! USB3 power can be very poor and lead to increased ...

White light with the CN212

Hello all, my demo HaT being all packed for it is leaving to UK by tomorrow, here is some white light views before I get the new (bigger) one. It has been done with the CN212 at F/35 and the Basler 1920-155um. The SSM has been made optimistic by the strong morning haze that is not common here. My wi...

Re: Beginning of a flare

It is done with the HaT and a PST etalon indeed. I do think that the SSM isn't quite usefull with a small diameter, and it depends on the sampling as well. When I was doing full suns with the FS60 and its SM60 doublestack, I was not sensitive to seeing. Maybe the limit from which the SSM makes sense...
