Re: H-alpha 31 august, 7 inch Intes, reflections and a BF30.
I assume the D-ERF is tilted a little bit to reduce the reflections from this surface? Similarly with the Baader 35nm? Actually, can the Baader filter be fitted on the camera nose-piece instead? I add a 656nm/7nm FWHM filter (to boost contrast) on my optical train (250mm RCT), but I place the filte...

Thanks Pedro! Yes I am glad it works. But the transmission is really low compared to the Lunt BF1200. So have to think about it if it is worth to experiment more. And how to make good use of it.

H-alpha 31 august, 7 inch Intes, reflections and a BF30.
The good thing about a slow sun is that it is a good time for experiments! Doublestacking two PST etalons behind the 7 inch Intes went reasonably well, but there still were a lot of reflections. The Circular Polarizer does the job it is supposed to do: not a lot more reflections than when using just...

I used ferric chloride (40%) for my mirror. Professionals seem to use a solution called green river:

Re: Is a C8 and a PST mod really usable?
If you can measure the distance of the focus of the incoming lightcone that is reflected in the 35nm filter you know how far you are from the real focus point of the C8. Optimal distance to the focus point for the front lens of the etalon is 20cm, anything less means that there is substantially more...

Hi langleif, luckily vignetting and aperture loss are not the same. If you use the etalon in a 100mm f5 telescope and position the etalon at minus 20cm of the focal point, then there is aperture loss. The systems functions as a 50mm f/10. When using a small etalon on a big f/10 scope, yes there is v...

Hi langleif, looks nice! Don't understand completely what you are saying. - there is no difference between a 180mm f/10 refractor and a C8 when you look at the light cone. That the light cone is bigger than the etalon means that you are not able to see the whole of the sun. Not that you are using ju...

Sorry. AS is Autostakkert and AP stands for alignment points.
What you could do is just lay the camera on your desk when connected tot the computer. Aim at a light. Increase gain and decrease exposure time. If I do so there is a grid visible with the asi178mm.

Re: ZWO ASI174 remove IR/dust cover removal
I think you can gain about 5mm with the low profile adapter. But then you can't use the protect window of the 174. So you might need an external IR filter, which means you will loose a couple of milimeter again.

Don't know what you mean exactly. The sweet spot is about the size of the sun in a 400mm telescope. So if your focal length is longer, the sweet spot is smaller than the whole sun.

I agree Franco, this could be the end of the 150mm Skywatcher as my H-alpha telescope.
Ronnie, hard to judge if it is a good etalon. I have two, this one seems a bit better than the other one. But the difference is not extreme.
