Re: Low noise high speed camera for halpha proms?
Hi, I am using a gain of 279 for some ordinary limb+proms exposures, this seemed to give relatively low noise but an obvious increase in the luminance of the background proms area (which I can control using luminosity masks and levels/curves adjustment) fairly easily. Magnus Beware ;-) The dominant...

Hi Solarchat, I was trying out my 120mm SW achromat and my Quark did not power up due to a faulty cable connection. Hi Alexandra,
Thanks so much for the Acuter Merlin. I checked with some retailers and this mount is no longer on sale, so I shall either go second hand or look for the equivalent. Probably one of the newer AZ mounts.
Really nice setup and incredible solar images Alexandra.

I wouldn't expect significant image quality differences between same-chipped cameras from different manufacturers. Hi,
No problems imaging proms, just getting the quality that Carbon60 is getting. And low noise and high contrast views of the ptoms.
I will work on my 90mm and 120mm refractors for the time being.

Quark chromosphere imaging of proms only ?
Hi,
I think I have got tuning of my Quark chromosphere eyepiece for disc details - usually at +2 setting on the quark dial.
I was wondering about imaging only the PROMs.
Is the setting different for this - dial setting is turned to what setting exactly ?
Many thanks for any advice on this.

What mount did you use to track the sun.

How many frames per second are you getting - a range of low to maximum attainable (depends on image size) do you get ?

I have a 1 TB SSD (NVMe) on an old HP laptop and 16 GB RAM and it gets about 64 fps on a normal image size of a ASI 174mm I think in SharpCap.
