Sun in H-alpha 25th May 2013

Just a couple of images with my PST from yesterday. It was a beautiful day all day here, but great weather also comes with a downside......gardening, painting and other chores, which eat into imaging time!! No time for the larger scope, unfortunately. DMK41 Mono camera on PST. Closer view was with a...

CME from AR11745 has arrived

The CME from AR11745 that erupted on May 22nd has arrived as anticipated. My magnetometers detected the glancing blow just hours ago at 18:00 Universal Time.

Thank you for looking.

Hi Mark/Alexandra,

Any new solar 'converts'? I trust everyone was suitably impressed. I'm just sorry I couldn't make it. Maybe next year.

Great job.

Re: 2nd CME from AR1748 rattles the magnetosphere

Hi Alexandra, It would depend on latitude and prevailing conditions, such as light pollution and such. With strong geomagnetic storms it is certainly possible to see the Aurora quite far south in the UK (maybe someone can comment on this), but I think this is the exception. Certainly the magnetomete...

2nd CME from AR1748 rattles the magnetosphere

The second CME from AR1748 to hit Earth's magnetosphere over the weekend, as anticipated, was detected on my garden magnetometers at approximately 22:50 yesterday. Shown here are some data from the North-South FGM-3 sensor, together with calculated 'rate of change' which clearly shows the event as a...

Thanks Alexandra and Walter. Here are the full 24hr data for both field vectors (N-S and E-W). Nothing spectacular about this one (maxed out at Kp5), but maybe this is just a prelude to something more exciting from AR1748. Another CME is en-route and is expected to arrive sometime today (travelling ...

Glancing blow CME from AR1748 moves the needles

AR1748 is beginning to make an impact with a recent CME that exploded from it a few days ago producing ripples in Earths magnetosphere.
