Thanks for sharing, Mark, you gave some useful hints for experimenting with CaK and telecentrics. Image sharpness from the described setup seems superb, really.

Did you remove Quark's telecentric for H alpha images ?

Beautiful proms these days, the solar limb is very active. Tried to image the same proms in CaK but they were faint and no comparable to H-alpha view.
Thanks for looking.

The versatile Lunt 50

Having used the red PT module of my Lunt 50 for modifying my 115 mm refractor - the module returns to the original configuration only for full disc imaging - I discovered that the remaining white tube can be used for WL and CaK too. I simply have to add a M68/2" adapter to the tube and a helica...

Good question with no easy answer. However let's separate the electronic from the optical part of the device. Suppose your device never reach tuning (green light) in any climate condition or different positions of the knob have no visibile effect on the image. In this case the device is clearly defe...

Re: Quark Chromosphere Combo vs plain

The standard Quark has been designed for those small refractors that are so popular today. In focus they produce a small primary image of the Sun hence no need for a large BF. Combo is designed for longer FL telescopes as SC, Mak or long focus refractors, these may not need a strong amplifier to rea...

The diagonal has a T2 male thread telescope side, you would need a female one to change the nose with a T2/1.25". For imaging you don't actually need a diagonal, best option is a straight-through BF as it has a shorter optical length, it save me some backfocus in my Lunt mod refractor. nice mod...

Re: Quark Chromosphere Combo vs plain

Standard Quark includes a dedicated telecentric that works fine with most refractors although long focus objectives may require a 0.5x reducer to avoid excessive magnifications. Combo is more versatile than standard, has a much larger blocking filter and is better suited for long refractors. Both ha...

Re: Help with 2.5x Powermate

Hi Alexandra, same problem with my one and the 5x model too, the reason why I no longer use them for solar.
