"New" PST comes with a 30mm etalon??
Just saw this Ad:
""
The Coronado PST h-alpha telescope comes with a 40mm f/10 Ha optical system and an internal 30mm etalon primary blocking filter. A patented tuning system allows for fine adjustment of the bandpass for the best detail, and a built-in focuser allows you to achieve the sharpest image.
""
Is this correct????
All the PST's I've dismantled for mods have all had an effective 20mm etalon.

Re: "New" PST comes with a 30mm etalon??
Simple answer no. It's quite easily solvable, would just mean a hard coated blocker, which would mean the cost (and then sale price) would be higher.

Hi Ken,
I suspect Meade is stating the physical diameter to the entire etalon plates, not the effective diameter of the reflective coated portion of the etalon itself.

A bit like their SM70 actually only being 60mmBob Yoesle wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 6:29 am Hi Ken,

If so, it’s absolutely rubbish!
What a con job....
I have an 80mm Solar ED80.....but fitted with a 60mm etalon!!!

Re: "New" PST comes with a 30mm etalon??
Tee hee hee! I agree!
I have a great marketing idea for Meade / Coronado - they should sell their SM90 etalons on a 100mm frac, then they could rebrand them SM100's
Maybe this is just the norm in the industry? After all Daystar solar scout scopes http://www.daystarfilters.com/Scout/60ScoutDS.shtml are touted as double stack bandpass despite only using one etalon.
A lot of marketing guff me thinks!!

Re: "New" PST comes with a 30mm etalon??
Probably they were inspired by how other filters are measured ....
A 1-1/4" thread-in filter is also measured by the outher casing leaving only ~26mm clear aperture. (~1") (But here that is more an indictaion where the thing will fit in)
But still guesswork; one (not me) should probably buy one and dismantle it (althoug that is probably prohibited by Meade as well)

Paul.
Yes, Meade specifically say the etalon is "fixed" for safety and NOT ACCESSIBLE .... "no user replaceable parts herein"
Hmm what about "inspecting" ITF filters for failures????
