Sometime I use Explorer Scientific AR152/988 + Used once only... Altair 2" Solar Wedge (very good indeed)
Will try and do it justice when I can with the help of various filters, Baader 1.25" Solar Continuum 10nm is one.

Hi SolarChatted,
The best is you make some tests with both and then you see the result and can take a decision

If you already have both I would try them out. If you are going to buy I wouldn't entertain the DMK41 get the 174.

Re: DMK 41AU02.AS vs 174M with AR90/900 mod
Hi all [experts] and sorry for not being here much, participating.
Got a Grand Son now - sharing the 'work' + #LockDown is in fashion these days - only get out now if weather + Grand Son sleeping coincide !
Yes, the 174M probably THE best choice and also useful for Moon, Planets, etc.
Since I did not have much money this time, I recently got a new EQ3-2, which I will adapt with GOTO but I need to see the kit first, maybe I can adapt the old EQ6 motors + standard wired remote I have - it might be adaptable - I once used one motor to drive LX200 focuser and worked OK - just a test, it was.
I simply bought it for when I need a 'quick get all out' experience - just observing - and might be useful with my Grand Son, maybe in a year or so.
Regarding the DMK41 - it is just that I saw it second hand and 'ready to grab' with little money I have now.
On second thought, I will wait until I can afford 174M - I already see the 178M is 'nearly there, especially at half/resolution.
It really is an enjoyable experience observing with this AR90/900 using the EQ3-2, then one day adding the 174M I will get more details for sure. It is the next step.
I just attached an image I have taken after about 6 moths off 'any' telescope.
Starting to put money away - although I forced off-work not earning!

Re: DMK 41AU02.AS vs 174M with AR90/900 mod
Heya! Congrats on the grandson!
DMK are 10 year old technology now, and software support is limited, they're usb2 also. Unless it is being virtually given away I wouldn't touch it. Theres a couple of motors for the bresser mount and the EQ2 on astroboot that might be able to use? https://www.astroboot.co.uk/AstroBoot.
If you;re using the camera with a PST mod you might want to consider the ZMO290m, i've seen some very good results with it and PST mods.

I get some Newton Rings issues with the ASI 174MM on narrow band H alpha.
I need a T2 tilter to resolve.

You know, I did think about getting the 290M [because of the results seen] and upon asking around, even Altair said I would be better off with 174M and I always thought, mmm maybe it was a mixed business/expert advice?marktownley wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2020 7:41 am Heya! Congrats on the grandson!

The 290M seemed great!
Maybe 290Mm might be better because of the narrow 5-6mm PST mod? [asking] Also there is always the possibility to replace it with the 10mm one and maybe 174M will be better?
I think I saw a DMK41 for £. 100

Re: DMK 41AU02.AS vs 174M with AR90/900 mod
I am wondering if it is worth getting dual axis or just that single axis at astroboot!
Probably just single as it would be mostly solar or posibly moon.
Once set Polar alignment .
Yes, will go with that.

Oh yes, I remember to have read about that, some users get rings and a tilter is needed.
