Solar Astronomy book now available
Dear All,
It is my pleasure to announce the availability of “Solar Astronomy”:
http://solar-astronomy-book.com/
This is the English translation of “Astronomie Solaire” including a lot of new additions such as:
- Introduction to Fabry-Perot etalon testing.
- Solar corona observation with a coronagraph.
- Spectroheliograph observation (measurement of sunspot temperature and magnetism, solar rotation, etc.)
- And a much enlarged chapter on solar radio astronomy.
The team of contributors now includes some faces familiar to the solar community Forum: Bob Yoesle (USA), Peter Zetner (Canada), Harald Paleske (Germany). And we are infinitely grateful to Ken Harrison (Autralia) and Peter Zetner for the English translation and to Jamey Jenkins (Solar Alpo, USA) for the proof reading.
We hope you enjoy reading it!

Re: Solar Astronomy book now available
My copy just arrived in the mail, thanks for the fast turnaround.
I read a fair bit and hence buy books online regularly. This was probably among the best packaged ones I've ever received; very well protected!
Now just hoping that the sun actually shows up again at some point. Most useless summer in years here (you might have heard about the nice weather we've been dealing with in Belgium).

Re: Solar Astronomy book now available
As did mine yesterday.
Fortunately there was just enough cloud to allow me to dip into its many fascinating articles. In all my life, as a collector of abstruse, non-fiction, I have never come across any book so utterly packed with detail, variety of subject matter and mind blowing imagery.
"Encyclopaedic" is an over-hyped expression, these days, but in this case the term is perfectly apt. A lifetime of future study is packed into 487 sides of high quality paper. By enthusiasts and experts in their field for fellow enthusiasts to read, absorb and enjoy. If you think the images on the forums are good then you haven't seen anything yet! The printed page offers detail and resolution we can only dream of with our fancy computer monitors.
Despite well over half a century of reading on the subject I feel as if I never knew solar astronomy until now. Nor its patient and clever explorers and unsung heroes. There has never been a better time to be actively involved. As optics, technology, instrumentation, software and communication between fellow "sun watchers" has never been more accessible.
If in doubt, do not hesitate to order this weighty volume. I cannot imagine any solar enthusiast not being absolutely delighted with this truly remarkable reference. There is something here for everybody. Whatever your particular areas of interest within the field of solar astronomy.
Congratulations to all concerned for a truly remarkable achievement!

The book is fantastic and EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for! Sincere thanks to all who contributed. The images are spectacular. They are really clear and show precisely the kind of thing I need such as examples of under/over processing, under/over stacking, wing shift and comparisons of features in different wavelengths and magnifications. Really delighted with it!

Re: Solar Astronomy book now available
The book arrived to me yesterday, with order placed 9 working days ago.
I already have its brother, the great text Planetary Astronomy.
For me it's natural to compare them: same impagination, same fonts, similar team and similar approach of the chapters.
So, if you have Planetary Astronomy, you will notice that Solar Astronomy seems almost doubled in number of weight, arguments.
And it analyzes very narrow aspects of every single argument.
The images are outstanding, but they are only a part of the entire work that preview itself as the last updated source about many aspect of study of the Sun.
It is hard to read, but I can't wait to.

I’m glad to hear the positive comments from the guys who have received the English version. I would feel comfortable offering a full refund to anybody who feels that the content doesn’t live up to the reviews.
The blood sweat and tears that went into the translation seem to be well rewarded.
Enjoy!!!

Re: Solar Astronomy book now available
I've had the book for a week or so now and I'm working my way through it. It's a stunning book and puts all other solar books I've seen or got into oblivion. It is absolutely stuffed with detailed information and wonderful images. I realise I still have a lot to learn and try out with my set up. I agree with Rusted's view above.
A big thanks to Christian and his fellow contributors for creating this book, it's truly excellent and it is worth every penny and more.
Regards to all
Gordon

Hi,
The Book might be good but the after Sales Service of AXILONE seems not to be that good.
I ordered the book on September 1st and paid via Paypal, my credit card was promptly charged , and shipping to an address in Germany as I had some communication with Jean-Phillippe C.... about the shipping method and I came up with the conclusion that shipping directly to Mexico via parcel post is a risk. I am still waiting for a parcel from Roumania send 2 years ago with TRACKING number ...
OK so far so good, but up to now after sending an e-mail 6 days later and 9 days later I have no answer ...
According to their info, well, thioe are just promises and promises are ephemeral. At least an answer saying, It was shipped or Sorry we have a lot to do and it will take a bit longer would be a nice saletiquette ...
Rainer
PS I was a salesman for more then 45 years and know what after sales service means and offers ... either a happy customer or a never returning customer ...
Rant over ...

You just have to stir with a Stick in a Wasp nest and suddenly the machinery starts to roll ...
Got my tracking number today after it was delivered yesterday at the adress in Germany ...
They could have spared this message if they would have answered the day I wrote them for the first time ...
And no, there is no e-mail from AXILONE in my SPAM / JUNK folder ...

Re: Solar Astronomy book now available
Hi All,
Has anyone managed to read it cover to cover ? A review or opinion would be much appreciated, many thanks.
Would any of this solar astronomy be out of date by the time I will have read it ??
Fantastic book, but I would like to take a look. Is it available in a library, e.g. British Library as my house is full of books already !

As you have read in the message before my book copy is in Germany and now I am waiting to get it to Mexico.
¿ Out of date ? Knowing the Sun a tiny bit , any book, written even tomorrow, is already out of date because the Sun gives us a daily surprise and will do it for the next 4.5 billion years.
On the other hand, no I am not a lawyer, the worlds knowledge about the Sun as of today has increased exponentially since the first scientists started to study the Sun and so I would say any book about the Sun is a good read. I do own some others and every book has something new in it.
Honestly Euro € 69.00 will not break any Sun lover's bank. It did not break mine even I am living on a retiree income from Germany which is not much and I still have to pay on it 20% income Tax There are much more expensive books and they are worse. Looking at the few pages depicted on the website IMHO is already worth buying it and even if one just takes a look at the pretty images ... unfortunately none of my images did make it into the book
Also your Grandchildren will enjoy it. Look at it from that point of view.
And no, I am not being paid by AXILONE for this shameless plug in
