Filaprom & Disc | HA | June 16th 2020

Post by MalVeauX »

Hey all,

It's been a hot minute that I've seen the sky after these past two tropical storms here in Florida. Gonna be a nasty hurricane season I wager. By chance, I went out this afternoon between clouds and showers and was able to take a look at the filaprom near the southern limb. I completely missed out on the last sunspot in the AR that rounded the limb due to weather... that's over 12 days that I've not seen anything. Horrible weather. Anyhow, seeing was not great, this is the worst time of day for me. I measured seeing and it indeed was bad. But, lucky imaging prevails and I was able to at least use the 120mm and got some lucky frames of the filaprom.

Hi Marty,

Great shot of the filaprom. I see you had good company. Who is that looking through the ED80? How was her experience?

Hi Marty,
That is a fabulous filaprom image showing such detail over the surface.
Very well done in-between the bad-weather.

MORE CLEAR SKIES for you

Terry

Thanks all :bow

The weather has been miserable, a very hot and humid summer this year. Back to back tropical storms with two hurricane warnings already and it's not even really hot yet. I may not see much this summer. I was super disappointed to miss that last sunspot for the entire 12 day transit due to weather. Ahh well. Back to a void disc just like that!

My daughter, she's turning 7 this year. She visits me in the observatory to take a look. I make sure we have visual and imaging sessions. She's been doing solar for a few years now herself (started around 4 or so?). My son is turning 1, so not quite ready for this. They will be thoroughly ruined for sure.

Martin,
Excellent images, even if the seeing was not so good they turned out very well. It is so nice to see your daughter getting involved in solar with you. I hope she keeps the interest as she gets older. There are so many distractions for young people these days and some of it seems so shallow to me. She is so cute! She reminds me a lot of my daughter when she was that age.

The best kind of astronomical outreach involves children. They are the future. You are passing it on to your children. Congrats!

James

P.S. May your weather improve! I have missed seeing your awesome work.
