Sun in Ha and Ca II K plus beautiful eruptive prom 12th July 2020

Post by Carbon60 »

A couple of FDs in Ha and Ca II K from today, which turned out pretty nice in the afternoon after a dubious start.

The best part of the day, however, was when I imaged a very fine eruptive prom that I managed to capture as an animation with lots of uninterrupted blue sky from the west. It's a bit jittery at the end and I didn't orientate it to compensate for the diagonal, but it demonstrates the dynamics of this active prom quite nicely.

First up Ca II K on a 72mm refractor fitted with a Lunt B600 module.

and the prom.....

This is a still image captured at the start of the activity at 15:47 UT

and the animation sequence from 16:04 to 16:49 UT

The seeing conditions were not ideal by this time. Apologies if it takes some time to load.

That's probably it for the next week or so if the weather reports are to be believed. More cloud and rain is forecast for the remainder of the week.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Some well fab images - even though a fairly quiet day, you have shown top-marks for that animated-prom.
Your CaK image is precisely why I got my Lunt 60mm CaK along with the Lunt Ha, some years ago and just love what it can show-up.

Hopefully our weather will allow me to post again some tri-scope images - if the PC behaves itself.

Thanks for showing

Terry

I like the splash at the end of the animation, great timing.

I had issues seeing this well at times visually due to high cloudiness. Excellent work Stuart. You have captured the immense speed of the plasma movement. And to think that several Earths could fit under that prom brings it into perspective.

The full disks look great (especially CaK) but WOW, that prominence animation is spectacular!
Nicely done, Stu.
Cheers.

Great animation! Love the fine detail the 150mm picks up. Makes me wish I could have afforded the lunt 152, lol. Keep 'em coming!

Superb animation, I also saw it and it did not last much but got it on CaK.
Have a nice starting week.
