AR2844 caught my eye yesterday morning with being in an unusual place. I later read that it is a rare high latitude sunspot... how exciting!

Re: AR2844 rare high latitude sunspot
That is a beauty!!
I was just discussing that with the Hubby last night as this is above 50 degrees I think I worked out. I have my fingers crossed that the rogue scientists who suggest this could be one of the biggest solar cycles is true. They predicted with their terminator theory, that the terminator was last month (I think). If this was the case then high latitude active regions would be spotted and a very strong solar cycle. I can't remember the details exactly but I think that was the gist (must get out the paper again). I have never seen an active region this high before.

Re: AR2844 rare high latitude sunspot
Thank you all. I couldn’t make sense of what I was seeing! It seemed to be in an odd place so naturally I thought I’d accidentally rotated my sensor round or something. When I checked it all and realised my kit was where I’d intended, with a whoosh of excitement, I hit the record button!

What is interesting is that this researcher in his paper predicted that the first X class flare of the cycle would be within one month of the terminator

This came true with the first X class on 3rd July!! wow! what a prediction
