Old School Moon 14/1/22
Been admiring the lunar shots on here, so I thought I would show a couple I took 6pm ish on the 14th.
I have been resurrecting old gear and re-siteing away from a ramshackle shed that needs dismantling.
Not been doing much Astronomy nor imaging , so a bit rusty.
I used an old 8" F8 newt that I have cobbled together. 1964 Optical Surfaces primary, AE skeleton tube, old lazy susan dob mount.
No drives so tried some simple drift footage with my PGR Grasshopper.
Could only manage a few sequences of 200 frames due to cock-ups and forgetfulness.
Anyway got the usual suspects and stacked 30 and 50 frames to make a few images.
These are the best of them, which have surprised me.
Gave me a bit of a lift to be honest.
Best wishes and Happy New Year to everyone,
David

Hi,
Excellent sharpness. Copernicus looks great as Plato with Vallis Alpes. Also Mons Piton is nice in view.
Crater Tycho and Clavius nice views.

Re: Old School Moon 14/1/22
Thank you Ivan.
Here are a couple of photos of the scope that I used.
Made out of old kit and an old but very nice mirror.
I will put the scope on an old Equatorial Tracking Platform to give me a drive
for longer captures soon.
Best wishes,
David

What a beautiful telescop, David! with such a huge focal length on a Dobson mount, taking a photo is probably very difficult. But you did great. By the way, your dome is great!
