Friday Night After Sunset

Post by MapleRidge »

Hello everyone...

Anyone with a clear view of the west after sunset on Friday night was greeted by a beautiful conjunction of the moon and Venus, and the pair will move closer over the next few nights. Alexandra already posted a shot taken along the river near her home.

I grabbed several images with the DSLR on a fixed tripod, a wide shot and another zoomed in a bit more which shows the Earth Shine:

I was grabbing images with a 85mm lens with the camera mounted on the scope after the sky darkened, so I also grabbed one of Venus and the Pleiades (M45). Over the next week Venus will close in on the cluster making its closest approach on April 2-3. If clear it will make an awesome sight with a brilliant new visitor to the cluster.

Hope everyone has a chance to follow the daily dance in the night sky ;)

Nice Brian,
I snapped a couple of shots of the waxing crescent Moon and Venus with my iPhone from work this evening. Beautiful! I do both daytime and nighttime astronomy.

Wow! these are spectacular Brian :hamster: much better than my hand held iPhone shot :)

I think it will be cloudy here for at least the next week which is a shame, so please keep us entertained with more :0

Thanks to everyone for your comments on the images :bow

Good to hear many saw it in person too. Looks like I will be clouded out for a few days as well, so lets keep the pics coming from everyone who can!
