C/2019 Y4 ATLAS

C/2019 Y4 (20200324) | Pedro RE'
http://pedroreastrophotography.com/

http://pedroreastrophotography.com/comets.html

C/2019 Y4 ATLAS was discovered on CCD images taken on December 28, 2019 with a 0.5m reflecting telescope on Mauna Loa (Hawaii). At the time of its discovery in December 2019, C/2019 Y4 was nearly 3 astronomical units from the Sun.

In mid-February this comet was observed to be brightening much more rapidly than anticipated. It will reach perihelion on May 30. It is predicted to reach maximum brightness in late May, when it may be a naked-eye object.

Nicely captured, Pedro.

I do a bit of asteroid/comet tracking (reporting data to the MPC) myself, so always nice to see someone else chasing these targets.

Thanks guys

I did this on March 24. C/2019 Y4 is getting brighter as we speak, maybe it will be a naked eye comet in May, fingers crossed

Hi Pedro...

Great to see your pics and animations of the comet...well done :bow

I caught it in a wide field shot last night using my DSLR and an 85mm lens, but nothing much to see at this scale.

I love the image in the video of the comet spiralling towards us in the past and away from us in the future.
Thanks for sharing Pedro!

I've only recently found out about this one. I am gonna have to break out my 20x80 Barska binoculars to see I I can find this one and catch it in my SkyWatcher 12" Dobsonian.

That came out well Pedro! Night sky too light for faint comets round here.
