The days I am standing on my shadow

Post by rsfoto »

Hi,

There is the Sun phenomena called Sub Solar point which means you have no shadow or you can trip on your shadow but this only happens in the latitudes below the Tropic of Cancer and above the Tropic of Capricorn.

Here is the link to the page https://rl.se/zenith-calendar

I live approximately 140 km South of the Tropic of Cancer and here the days I can stand on my shadow :seesaw

That's interesting! you need to photograph your shadow at that point in time, I'm guess there will only be your feet?

Hi, There will be no shadow at all as the Sun rays will be 100% parallel and so no shadow is visible except OK if I take the air gap between my shoe sole at the front which raises a bit    or the posts have not been exactly positioned

That is such a strange concept to have no shadow at all :)

I remember when I first went to America and we were in Florida at NASA Cape Canaveral, it was our second day in Florida and I remember leaping about and saying to the Hubby, look I have hardly any shadow, isn't it so strange and weird! he looked at me in a strange and weird way  It is the only time I have ever seen this as we continued northwards on the cruise and the shadows became more normal.

Hi,

Testing how to best see the Sub Solar point in my garden yesterday I tested a Flamingo and today a Level.

Yesterday the Sun was at 89.5° and today at 89.6° and on Friday July 10 it will be exactly at 90°. So I still have 2 days for testing

Hi,

Today July 8 2020 update.

Sun was behind a cloud at 13:49 hours Mexico time (UTC 18:49 hours)

Now thinking about the level from yesterday I remembered that in my photography hardware arsenal I have a Nodal Ninja from Fanotec Panoramic Equipment and there are bars with leveling bubbles. So much better to get the vertical bar really vertical.

Update

Hi,

I thought it might be much more interesting to make a video instead of a image only. I did setup everything and tested it but only clouds.

This is my setup.

SubSolar_imaging_setup_NHSA_09072020a.jpg (1.67 MiB) Viewed 1495 times

and here a test video. 20 minutes compressed into 1 minute. Hopefully tomorrow when the Sun is exactly at 90° I have Sun and no clouds
