The moon this week

Post by MapleRidge »

Good day everyone...

I have been working too many long days in the past 3 months to make much progress on getting my C14 mounted in the dome after moving all the solar equipment to the large roll-off observatory in March. Last weekend I was able to get the C14 mounted on the MI-250 mount and took a few test images to try out the mount and camera controls, and only had a few gremlins to work out ;)

Below is a pic of the scope in the POD dome:

After a couple of nights testing it out I am unsure if this is enough room to work with and around the scope...just too tight between the interior walls and the scope. I'd really like a 10 foot dome, but budget will likely limit me to a 10'x10' roll off, but I'll keep trying it out.

The firsts set of trial images were taken on Saturday evening (before sunset) at the prime focus of the C14 with the ZWO 174MM camera (no filters):

I had a second run on the evening of July 4st as well, but with the IR830nm filter in the optical path:

Most of the images are 2 or 3 frame mosaics.

The views of the moon are always impressive along the terminator!!!

Now back to the larger data set of solar images taken in the past 2 weeks...maybe get some of it posted before morning

Great initial test run I'd say, Brian. Looks good.

Nice shots and a cool setup, I see what you mean though it does look a squeeze in that dome.

Thanks for all your feedback and comments guys...very much appreciated :bow

Derek...I too am hoping to get a start at imaging Jupiter and Saturn, but still low in the south so I will have a challenge with haze and atmospheric effects giving longer exposures.

Nice moon images, Brian.

It does look a little snug In the dome :)

Thanks Stu. I don't think a diet will gain me much room to slip between the back end accessories and the wall.

It is at its worse with the scope pointed low, but will have to decide what steps to take as far as possible replacement building with a bigger foot print.
