C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) just before dawn

Post by JochenM »

The sun hasn't been playing nice here for quite some time (cloudy/rain all the time). Nights however have been somewhat clear from time to time.

I had been wanting to have a look at C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) for a while now; but conditions never allowed it until this morning. The comet is quite visible even with the naked eye, relatively low above the horizon. With its clearly defined coma/tail; it makes for quite the spectacle.

Thanks for looking.

Looking good there, Jochen. Nice reflected sunlight :)

It’s a long time since I last saw a naked eye comet myself.

Thanks Stu.

These (unfortunately) don't come around very often indeed.

Nice hopefully stays bright enough till we can see it in the Southern Hemisphere.

Thank you Jochen.
A superb image and even when magnified on my screen, shows Neowuse in its' full glory.

I was (at last) able to do some Oculus (All-sky-camera) imaging from around midnight here) and haven't yet processed those, but did follow-on with some visual observing for the comet, but it was a tad too late before Sun-rise. Will try again tonight...

Did see lots of planets though...

Regards
Terry

Thanks guys.

Terry, that sounds like a pretty nice idea. Weather and conditions overall permitting, the comet should be visible in an all sky feed.

Hi Jochen,

Excellent image. I was looking the position for my location but it is far to low to get it.

A stunning image Jochen :hamster: I was lucky on Friday and Saturday night, it was so beautiful I can't wait to see it again, hopefully this weekend we may get a clear sky again. I think it is around 25 years ago since we had a decent naked eye comet in the northern hemisphere.
