July 17 NEOWISE

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi Everyone...

I had a clear night on Friday which made many observing targets...NEOWISE, Jupiter, Saturn, and deep sky too.

The pic below was taken on a tracking mount, and is a stack of 9 x 30sec exposures with my Canon 60D.

Nice to see the ion tail in the longer summed exposure time.

Wow!! you got the ion tail, well done :bow :bow :bow thanks for the settings too, that is very interesting to know how to get this tail. I don't think it would be possible for me, my only portable mount is alt/az, would that cause problems in stacking?

Derek, Alexandra, Terry and Jochen...

Thanks for all of the comments on the image. It has been fun and challenging both, but the efforts pay off in the end.

Alexandra, you can still stack images on a stationary mount but the limit will be how long an exposure you can make before star trailing becomes an issue. Shorter exposures will need more frames to stack to get the equivalent amount of signal recorded.
