A bit of macro

Post by JochenM »

With the sun on extended leave here (might be back this week though); I've had to find other ways to keep myself occupied.

Decided to try a bit of macro photography again (been a very long time). Inital results are not half bad; always interesting to see what those little critters look like up close.

Thanks for looking!

Hi Jochen,

WOW, stunning images. :band

The pollen on the Bumblebee hairs look amazing.

I think in hte second image that is not a Bee but a some sort of fly from the Hoverfly family ¿?

A Bee has two antennae on the forehead and thicker or stronger legs. Sorry for nitpicking.

May I ask what equipment do you use ? Thanks.

regards Rainer

Wonderful! to see all their fur on both is quite lovely :bow I wonder why both are so hairy, maybe it is an adaption to keep pollen dust away from their bodies?

Rainer, a Bumble bee (top), Hoverfly (bottom) we get loads in Europe although before 10-15 years ago I used to see hundreds of Hoverflies on my flowers each summer, now I barely see one or two. They must have suffered a catastrophic collapse in numbers which is very worrying. Each year I keep hoping maybe it is just a wet summer but this has has gone on for far too long to be just a fluctuation. It is sadly a sign of meddling humans and huge loss of insects around the world.

Thanks all.

I wasn't really sure what that second insect was exactly. Updated the info in the meanwhile; thanks for the clarification.

Rainer, the equipment used was:

Nikon D780
Nikkor AF-S 105mm F2.8 G IF-ED VR Micro Nano
Nissin MF18 Ring Flash
