Sunrise and some birds
Some nature images of the last 2 weeks or so. The birds are far from perfect (exposure times could have been higher and the iso lower; resulting in a cleaner image). A bit rusty in all that; but with some practice; I'll get there
Thanks for looking!

Re: Sunrise and some birds
Fabulous images Jochen to take any crisp pictures of birds is a very hard thing to do
Out of interest, were you looking in an American bird book for translations? not being picky but I would call these birds slightly different

Even worse; Google! I usually don't have a clue what they're called in English (just know them by their Dutch names) and simply Google a translation.
Thanks for the updated names; gonna make the edits in a few.

Re: Sunrise and some birds
OK, I get that now, good old Google
Your English is as perfect as an English speaker, but I guess bird names are difficult to translate. I always love the French version of a Red Kite which is Milan royal so nothing like the English translation.
I recently bought a new bird book (update from my 1980's version) and a lot of the names have changed. There seems to be a definite change to call everything Eurasian ..... I think to distinguish between the American .... of the same. Also a Fan-tailed Warbler has totally changed names to Zitting cisticola, how about that!! I heard someone talking about this bird earlier this year and thought, what, I have never heard of this, am I going nutty. This is when I thought I had better buy a new book and update myself I suppose we could go with Latin names but that would be boring

Re: Sunrise and some birds
Yeah, bird names aren't even remotely similar across various languages usually
My girlfriend has been talking about getting me a bird book for my birthday later this year. I think I might just go with it and ask for one in English.
And I'll pass on the Latin names as well, thank you very much

Re: Sunrise and some birds
This is the new one I just bought, an absolute bible of birds. I started out with the 1970s edition and wow have things changed!

Hi Jochen,
Excellent terrestrial images and the colours look very natural for me. Birds are always tough to get. They move too much

Re: Sunrise and some birds
About books take a look at the " Peterson Field Guides ". I have several of them. The most difficult birds for me to identify are the Sparrow familyJochenM wrote: ↑Wed Aug 05, 2020 2:26 pm Yeah, bird names aren't even remotely similar across various languages usually

Re: Sunrise and some birds
Jochen always good to see the birds on the other side of the world. As for the names every few years they have taxonomy changes and species are split so they are always changing as DNA testing advances.
