14-9-2020 CRESCENT & a HALF

Post by EGRAY_OBSERVATORY »

Well at least I got the two together this week - which I failed to get from the observatory last week or so due very poor seeing.

Hand-held camera with perfect-seeing this time.

At least it is easy to see where the reflected-light is coming from...

Enjoy

Regards
Terry

Wow! fabulous duo :hamster: took me a while to work out what the half was until I read the photo title :)

Always nice to catch these occurences on camera (weather permitting being the usual difficulty for you as well, I'm sure). Nicely done.

Thanks Alexandra and Jochen.

The clue was meant to be in the title, Alexandra !
Indeed Jochen, with all the changeable weather just lately including a heatwave today of over 30-degs.C, at least in the early hours of the 14th, the night sky was absolutely clear with no surface-wind either, so both items being fairly low and very bright in the sky, was better for me to just use the decent camera, rather than wind-up the observatory-gear at that hour.

At nearly 4-degrees separation, the Moon and Venus just fitted into the 20mm telephoto and was able to keep the camera steady enough without the tripod...

KEEP SAFE & WELL

Terry

Terry, is it the Moon and Mars (as per title on photo) or the Moon and Venus as you mention in the previous comment?

Apologies Alexandra,
I made a mistook, which meant that the title should have read the Moon and Venus.

Having just read something about Mars just before publishing that image, my brain-box must have seized then.

If you want me to resend the image with the correct title, it can be done shortly ?

Regards
Terry

Oh I see! no problem about the image, I was just confused  (which is normal). It did look like a mini crescent to me but then I had seen lots of images recently with Mars and the Moon too :)
