Jupiter and Saturn during the day

Post by dccole9 »

All,

One of the things I do for outreach when we want to look at other objects other than the Sun, is observing the planets during the day. It’s one thing to see them visually at night but having good enough optics to see them during the day is something else entirely. Here’s a video I took exactly a month ago to get a head-start for practicing and locating the planets for today’s conjunction. This was taken during the 3 o’clock hour local time. In this case, I used my C11:

When I observe the planets with my solar setup, I use a 90mm refractor and am able to see Venus, Mercury, and Jupiter pretty easily though Jupiter takes a little squinting.

That is really impressive!!! you must have amazing tracking and finding skills :bow :bow :bow I couldn't even conceive of the idea of hunting for them in daytime, I have difficulty getting them in the field of view at night when I can see them!
