Third Quarter Moon Jan 6th

Post by Carbon60 »

Another try at coloured moon images. Here's the Third Quarter Moon which I took this morning just before sunrise.

Image20210106_Moon by Stuart Green, on Flickr

and a closer view of the terminator in the south, but in monochrome (colour camera image converted to mono as the coloured image didn't come out too well).

The large pixels (~12um) on the Nikon (and operating in video mode) limit the resolution, but there's still plenty of topography to see along the terminator.

Thanks for looking.

Stu.

Well done Stu on capturing these excellent images of our nearest neighbour.

The terminator also shows much of the interesting features too.

Cheers
Terry

That's super!! :bow

I was just admiring the Moon a few moments ago but within 10 minutes we now have thick freezing fog at -2C. The Moon has vanished.

Hi Alexandra,

It's amazing how quickly the conditions can change. Before I started I checked the sky and it was beautifully clear and the morning was crisp with a slight frost. Literally just as I got the scope on target the moon fogged over with mid level clouds which remained for about 20 minutes, which is no fun early morning in the freezing cold. Eventually it cleared, but only for about 10 minutes and that was the end of the session. So frustrating.

Many thanks, Brian. I love the ruggedness of the southern highlands.
