Compo Beach sunset March 3, 2021
Hello all: it has become almost a ritual. Every day a beautiful sun is out Westporters congregate at Compo Beach to witness the sunset. This is last evening, when Lisa and I joined the group. Taken with a Mavic Air 2 drone.

Hi Franco,
Looks great. I am astonished about how well that lens is corrected. What is the focal length ?

What a lovely tradition all the Sun worshippers
It reminds me of when we visited Bend, the lady at the B&B recommended we go up the spiral hill to watch the sunset, she said get there early for a parking space as all the locals attend there each night. It must be a tradition in the USA? I don't know of anything like this here in the UK, apart from the solstices at Stonehenge. It was wonderful, the atmosphere and sunset was superb.

Re: Compo Beach sunset March 3, 2021
Thank you Alexandra and Brian for your posts. I am glad, Alexandra, you experienced this somewhere else (Bend, OR ?). Lisa and I are doing this more frequently: it is a really nice break at the end of the work day, admiring the beauty of nature, the sun, the sea, the sand, the big blue sky together with other members of our community. A collective experience.

Lovely images, Franco.
That would be an ideal spot to set up for some solar outreach. I bet you'd have a queue of people trying to get a view through your scopes.

Re: Compo Beach sunset March 3, 2021
Thank you Alexandra, Stu and Jochen. Alexandra: we have good friends that live in Bend. It is a high desert, 3600' altitude. I assume you were there for the eclipse ? Stu: yes, it would be a great place for outreach, once COVID is over. Sometime we do solar outreach downtown Westport near the library or at local festivals around town. All of that is on hold now. Jochen: the drone was flying about 210 feet up in the air. A good view from up there. Here in the US the ceiling for drones is 400 feet.

Yes we were there just after the eclipse on our grand Oregon tour. Sunny Acres B&B was the best! amazing breakfasts with lots of Hummingbirds to watch (not eat)
