Pre sunrise over Mount Bromo

Post by Radon86 »

Hi everyone !

This is an old photo I took in May 2018 in Indonesia on an Astro tour. It is barely 1 hour before sunrise. The sky is brightening rapidly...
I trimmed this photo down to fit on the site. I have a link to the larger format if you like on dropbox. I only straightened it properly today, as the horizon was crooked
Barely half an hour after this and the sun was on the horizon !!!!

That is a super shot, I wish I could experience dark skies like this :hamster:

Is that steam or a cloud coming from the middle hill?

Hi,

Very good image. I was wondering too about that cloud in the center.

I searched Mount Bromo and found out it is an active volcano. Very interesting.

Hi Thanks Alexandra,

It was almost sunrise and you could see the Milky way like a cloud in the sky !
The steam on the horizon is actually volcanic steam or stuff, the volcano constantly spews some gas into the atmosphere.
The exposure is 180 secs at ISO1600, on a Vixen Polarie tracker, Canon 100D (not modified), I did not have a full frame camera with me at the time. I had no sleep for 3 days !
The photo is not even processed fully to its full potential, I just straightened it as I had framed it wrongly. It has taken me 3 years to find the answer to that.

Hi Alexandra,
Here is a reduced image size from another member of the astrophoto party in May 2018. I was too weak to climb the steps to Mount Bromo; here is the inside of it, where the stuff comes out. The original is 40MB, not sure how many frames he took to get the full view.
The scenery there is like the Moon or Mars, spectacular and alien.

Thanks Brian.
I have not even begun to complete my analysis of all the pics taken, about 100 GB altogether ! It sure is an expensive and addictive hobby, this Milky Way stuff.

Hi Alexandra,

I believe it can get quite hot on the summit of that volcano. Donkeys take tourists up to the base of the volcano, poor donkeys !

Hello Alexandra,
I had to check a ImPPG tutorial after downloading the ImPPG new version 0.6.3.
I came across the link to your solarnutcase article on solar imaging. I saw and read it word for word over 2 years ago ! Very good and useful it was. I will have to go through it again soon !

I wonder if you thought about writing a book on solar imaging as you have so much to contribute. I would certainly buy such a book.
Also, possibly updating the solar guide with regard to imaging techniques/new cameras/solar parker probe - new knowledge of the sun ?

Just a thought.
