Hi, can you please enlighten me, not sure what is going on in this photo ? Is this an atmospheric effect of the sun on the clouds ?

I can reply Magnus, that it and rainbows are somewhat similar, but in this case of Sun-Bow/Sun-Dogs are due to to upper-air levels usually containing ice-crystals which themselves refract the Sun's light.

Similar effect can of course be obtained at ground-level by using a spray from a hose-pipe away from the Sun's light to perform your own rainbow,
but not so much as Sun-Dogs - which are obviously much higher in the sky surrounding the Sun.

Great fun if you don't mind getting damp too...

ps I've tried flying light-aircraft through rainbows, but it is actually impossible to achieve...
