June 23rd Moon

Post by MapleRidge »

Hi everyone...

I shot a few images of the nearly full moon on evening of June 22nd (23rd UT), using the Orion 130ED EON at prime focus with the ASI1600MM camera. The full disk image is shown below as both positive and inverted images:

Cloud and rain started to today and is to last through the weekend so that will limit astronomy, but supplying desperately needed rainfall for the crops!

Brian hi,

Great shot, inverted moon is one of the most unusual photos I've ever seen. Thank you.

Hi Terry and Ivan...

Thanks for your comments on the lunar image.

The inverted image is not frequently seen, but I have an old lunar atlas somewhere that featured the inverted version of each image. I'll have to look for it...probably been over 30 years since I last used it.

Pedro posted an inverted image earlier and that was what triggered me to do the same.

It turned out great.
I had a thought, I saw color photos of the Moon, of course, these were shades of gray, but still they were colors. And if the color photo of the Moon is inverted?

Hi Ivan...

The recent lunar images were taken with a monochrome camera, so just a grey scale for both the positive and inverted shots.

I think I posted one a while back with the one shot colour camera, but it wasn't used for these.

Hi Brian,

With monochrome it is difficult to remove color, you need LRGB filters, a wheel or a slider. In any case, your Moon is very beautiful.
