Eurasian Eagle Owl

Post by JochenM »

As you may have guessed by now, not much solar astronomy going on here. Having a patch of quite horrible weather (one storm after the other for weeks now).

On the upside, my other passion (birds/wildlife) has been going great. Came across this specimen this past weekend (or well, I had set out to try and find it). A first for me; caught glimpses of them before, but never managed to image one (they're extremely skittish).

It was shot from quite a distance away (effective focal length = 1050mm here). As such, not the greatest quality; but acceptable in my eyes.

Thanks for looking!

   WOW!!!!!!! well done!! what a find!!!

Magnificent bird :bow :bow :bow
Now that was a special moment for you that you will remember forever!

I've only ever seen one once (in the wild) in the Cevennes In France when I was a teenager. I've seen them in captivity and even held one but that doesn't count :)

Thanks Terry/Alexandra.

This may very well have been a once in a lifetime experience indeed (although one always secretly hopes for more). Definitely made my entire week.

You may not know this but we have an equally large nonprofit called Sunlit Earth! that blends solar astronomy with wildlife photography here in the US.

Wildlife photography is also my other passion as well as Alexandra and several others on Solarchat.

Well done, Jochen.

It’s useful to have a second (third, fourth….) hobby that’s not so weather dependent as solar astronomy :)

Hi Stephen. I know who you are, don't worry ;)

I browsed through that link/group a bit. Looks very interesting, thanks for sharing.

Absolutely. We're not exactly living in a tropical sunlit location, are we
