Our beautiful galaxy, Milky Way May 11th 2018

Post by Radon86 »

Hi All,
I had another look at my images from May 2018 in Indonesia. Managed to enhance slightly the sky but the foreground did not have much detail as I did not take separate foreground exposures that day. Maybe I will take a better foreground in future. 7 images stacked to reduce noise all (30 secs at about ISO 1600, Canon 100D, unmodified camera, fixed tripod only, around midnight in cold temperatures). Top of mountain looking down on Mount Bromo area. Maybe I can create a mega panorama from all my files ?

That is so beautiful Magnus, there is nothing better than the peace and tranquillity when staring up at the enormity of the heavens :hamster:

Thanks Alexandra!
I went back to the Raw files and the files are ISO 6400 30 sec exposure with Samyang 14mm lens. Fstop I think was 2.8 but it was dark and it may have moved a bit. The foreground is so dark despite ISO 6400 !! There is some detail in the RAW files of the foreground but noisy and faint.

Very beautiful! The southern sky is the dream of any astronomer from the northern hemisphere.

Hi Ivan,

I agree, I was standing there astonished by the Southern sky and the huge bright milky way like a cloud in the sky. I was too afraid to waste time imaging the dark foreground in case the sky disappeared behind cloud !

I understand you, it turned out great. I can imagine how my hands would tremble at the sight of the Magellanic clouds.

Thanks Franco, Mark, Alexandra and others for your kind compliments. I remember this place on top of a mountain being very cold, I was hungry and thirsty and pitch dark. You were not allowed to light paint or use much light as there were other photographers in the group next to me. There was no time to setup in the light of the day either...we arrived near to midnight on the mountain...
