Venus from Wednesday 1/5/22

Post by KMH »

I was able to (carefully!!!) get some early afternoon images of Venus on Wednesday, when it was about 8 degrees from the sun. The seeing was absolutely horrible - it's a tribute to AutoStakkert and AstraImage that they turned out semi-presentable. The forecast is better for Friday, so I will try again then I hope.

The first image is at prime focus, comparing with/without a Baader 685nm near-IR filter. The filter did seem to help.
The second image is with a Powermate 2.5x, and the nIR filter. The orientation is a bit off.
Yes, I made the mistake of not switching to my mono camera when I put the filter on! Oh well.....
