Moon images 11th Jan 2022

Post by Carbon60 »

Pretty much the same session as Mark with the Waxing Gibbous moon and some closer views of Clavius and the Apennine mountain range.

I was testing out my new ZWO 178 colour camera to try to produce 'mineral moon' images, although I wasn't particularly successful as my results looked quite brown with hints of green when I increased colour saturation. I tried boosting the colours further and shifting the colour balance, but ended up with too many blue artefacts on the highlights. First light and a learning experience  Maybe I needed to change some settings when recording the image? I produced the closeup views in monochrome for this reason.

Anyhow, here are the results. I used my 250 mm RCT for these. It was a lovely clear sky, but with the usual turbulent air.

That's not a bad start Stuart :hamster: I know I have seen plenty of tutorials with DSLR images, but not stacked images from a colour webcam. I hope you find some answers and can get it working OK. I must try my colour cam on the Moon one day.

Very nice Stu! I'm sure i've mentioned in posts of old i'm very much considering getting the 183 colour cam for the same purpose, I might treat myself for my birthday at the end of the month. I've no doubt it will be a learning curve for me too! I'm guessing the colour shot is a mosaic?

Many thanks, Mark and Alexandra.

Mark, indeed the coloured shot is a mosaic.

I see you've got your eye on a 183. Who said you have to be sensible with financial planning :)

Anyhow, I've reworked the image. I think this is an improvement.
