Session time is from 14:26 until 15:21 UTC. The skies are mostly clear. The seeing is slightly above average. The temperature is 64F ( 17.7C )
Coronado SolarMax II 60 DS. 16x, 25x and 33x ( Ha )
I can see seven active regions in the chromosphere today. AR12866 is now in the SW quadrant and is visible mainly by it's lone spot. It's plage is small and scattered to the east of it's spot. I see two small but easy plages east of AR12866. A sizeable filament lies SSE of AR12886. AR12887 shows some spots among a bright plage complex. The brightest parts of the plage lie east and SE of the largest spot(s). GONG shows some fine filaments there but I could not pick them out visually. AR12888 is visible as a plage near the SE limb with another bright plage below it. I can see the seventh plage in the NW just across the CLM.
Three filaments are seen in the NW quadrant not far from the limb and a couple more are visible very close to the NE limb.
Prominences are numerous today. The NE is littered with them. Fuzzies, a blunt spike and one that looks like a surge prom. I think there may be something at or close to the limb here preparing to come into sight. Something has all of this stirred up! Or maybe all those proms that disappeared a couple of weeks ago still have that BIG party going on!!
The SE has some nice ones too. A trailing prom to the north, a fuzzy tower in the middle and the bottom one is the one that showed so much nice detail yesterday. I can see a single void today near the disc right in the middle of the prom. The western side of the disc is not near as active. All but one is small. The larger one is located in the NW and reminds me of a branch of cauliflower! I'll call it the " Veggie Prom "!!
The mottles are visible without difficulty across the disc.
Orion 70mm Solar Telescope. 25x and 50x ( WL )
I can see six regions on the WL photosphere. AR12886 in the SW shows a single spot showing both umbra and penumbra. Due east of it I see a grouping of 4 spots/pores. The SE shows three wonderful regions. AR12887 is a nice grouping of nearly a dozen spots and pores. The two larger ones have nice oval penumbrae but have tattered umbrae. Their faculae are faint. AR12888 is a bright patch of faculae with a small spot at it's western extremity. Below it lies another bright faculae. I can see five pores in it with a close look, they are a bit difficult to see.
I can also see a patch of faculae near the NW limb.
The fine granulation of the photosphere can be seen today.
Carpe Lumen!
James

Re: October 25 2021 Observations
The Gong image shows many spike proms, which of course due to their eruption angles, may not actually be the spikes as we see them - edge-on...
The SDO images well-show the detail of those AR's
Thanks vm James

Thanks for the interesting description, James. I also watched a little through the laptop screen today.

Re: October 25 2021 Observations
Thanks Terry and Ivan,
The NE limb is proving quite active tonight. Out of view behind the Earth for me. SDO and GONG has it though!
Goodnight from the Eastern USA.

Re: October 25 2021 Observations
Sounds like you had a good view of the new incoming AR in the NE
If only the Sun would come out here today I would grab the PST for a view. However, I think we have a big weather system coming in, they always coincide with large activity on the Sun, they just have to be linked
