AR1944 at 6m focal length

Post by fjabet »

Hi all,

this is the first solar run (last friday) for Airylab's incoming high resolution HA telescope.
All details are not settled yet so I won't present it this time, but it's working fine.

It is a three fields mosaic with the CMOSIS CMV4000 of the IDS 3370. Sensor has a slight AoI due to the vigneting of the Daystar Ion .5A I used. The FL is 8 meters native reduced to 6m here. The final version of the telescope with the dedicated telecentric assembly will be 5,7m native down to 3.5m with reducer.

Visually, it's the best thing I've ever seen in HA. An incredibly detailed view despise the low elevation, and I was lucky to have this huge AR1944 spot available !

Frédéric.

A very warm and sunny welcome Frederic :hamster: I'm really looking forward to hearing more about the Airylab :)

A super image too

One thing I would say is don't use wavelets in Registax/ Avistack to sharpen, try either an iterative Unsharp mask or Smart sharpen in Photoshop, you will find that you can tease a much higher level of detail out in this image :)

Thanks for your feedbacks, I'll try CS instead of Registax indeed, the results I have seen on another thread were quite impressive !

Thats quite a nice setup you have there! The potential for high resolution close ups if the seeing permits is good here, looking forward to more images from you.

Thanks for your warm welcome !

@Alexandra : I tried some iterative smart sharpen (successive decreasing detail size from 10 to 2) but I didn't get better than the wavelets.
Logically I should start with low frequency details, and then increase frequency to smaller details, is it the way you proceed ?
I think I should also try with PixInsight someday...

I always start with a small radius than increase to larger radius... No real reason why, just the order I do it in.

Hi Frédéric,
I am still learning about this but I try and bring out the detail before doing anything else using Shadows/Highlights.
The sharpening is done with Smart Sharpen in PS.Sometime getting the detail in the AR destroys the rest of the shot. No matter just use two images and blend them as you like. The old M42 trick works well. Image captured with PGR2.8 Grasshopper on a Vixen 130ss with a 90mm SolarMax and a BF30.
I notice your image is showing considerable bridge detail already. If you send me the original Tifs with no processing I could write you a tutorial as to how I do it. Only if you want to.
[email protected]
I did try to reprocess your post but an already processed JPeg is no good, I need the originals
Cheers
Ralph.
