Sunshine, but probably the last

Post by Montana »

Fog till midday, but then it cleared and I was already set up and waiting. Will probably be the last as I was up the path already, bad seeing but I couldn't careless, I needed my fix. Fog again at 2pm.

All taken with a Grasshopper 3 and a Quark Chromo or Herschel wedge.

Couldn't decide which I prefer probably the first of these two.

Top shots Alexandra! I know what you mean, my fog window was about 45 minutes, it closed back up just as I'd got the quark up and running visually but before I could image. I can only image on weekends now, and with the sun and other commitments (let alone weather) there's not many days left this year to take a peak at ol' yellow face.

It's a close call between those 2 quark close ups, both have their merits...

Very very nice series of images, Alexandra!

Impressive!

BTW Have you flat fielded your Quark images?

Which two Quarks do you mean, Mark?

Excellent images, Alexandra. A lucky break in the fog!

Mark, I was just down the road from you in Redditch this weekend and today the weather was glorious all day. I caught the fog on my way up the M6.....all the way back to Preston!!

They're both images from the same Quark, just different post processing Valery :)

Thanks guys :) soon it will be the PSTs from the bedroom window again ;) but that is better than nothing :)

It is like pea soup out there at the moment.

Valery, yes I did use a flat, and the same Quark but different post processing as Mark said. I think the second is a bit too contrasty, but sometimes I like it.

Lovely images thanks Alexandra.

How do you do your flats for the Quark images? At the moment (Quark and ASI174MM camera on 102mm f 6.5 achromat) I use a short defocused centre of disk capture (about 1 cm of focuser travel away from focused) and then build the flat in Autostakkert 2. I sometimes stack with Avistack 2 and use the Autostakkert built flat in that.

Thanks folks :)

For the flat: I take my video with the Quark, then pop a piece of cling film over the front of the scope and take 500 frames with cling film (not changing anything). I then create the master flat in Autostakkert2 with the cling film video, then process the original with 'load master flat' with it. It is very simple and works well, mainly it is to get rid of the dark bars top and bottom I get with the Grasshopper.

Thanks for that Alexandra. I'll try some clingfilm flats instead of my usual defocused capture ones. Nice not to have to lose and re-find focus.

Cheers,

The fog sounds like a challenge - not too much around my parts. Th Ha are pretty sweet & the WL disc with the spots is great! I hope to see the Sun this weekend!
